I had this as part of the 16 beer sampler (enjoyed with my future wife..couldn’t do it all alone). This was the future wife’s favorite, tasted bitter and I considered it a good traditional IPA. Not bad stuff at all.

Sampled at Russian River in Santa Rosa. A burst of fresh hops, powerful but not at all overpowering. Great balance, still very hop-forward - this is like "Pliny light."

Golden amber pour with white head. Aroma was citrus and honey. Taste was nice and sweet very balanced with slight bitterness. Very tasty IPA.

UPDATED: MAY 20, 2010 Draught at the brewery. Not really my fave of their brews but still nice. Pours clear tan-amber beer with a thinoff-white head. Sweet aroma from both the hops and the malt. More sweetness in the flavour plus some hay/grass. Not a really dominant hop profile.

Growler shared by Mike and Janet. Rating #204. Dark gold with a white head. Nice piney aroma. Smooth but bitter as well, very cohesive though and a touch of citrus in there also. Light on the tongue, but in a good way, very drinkable and very good. (1219)

The IPA was a pleasant surprise to kickoff my visit to the Russian River brewery. It’s a flavorful IPA with a lot of citrus and pine hop notes. The beer pours a handsome light amber with a big white head. The smell is a bit weaker than I’d like but it’s well-balanced with pine and flowers hops pairing with clearer malt than some big IPA’s. The taste is more hops than malt. certainly in line with Russian River’s style. There’s more citrus than BP and Pliny, and it packs quite a punch even with those beers as my main point of comparison. The mouthfeel is fairly superb. It’s enjoyable but after a few of them I can imagine my mouth begging for mercy.

On tap. Admittedly I didn’t get all that great a read on this one. What I remember was an orange colored, citrus-floral nosed IPA with a tremendous sharp bitter kick. Which I liked. Palate was slightly full and oily, though not outside of typical parameters for the style. Interesting, since Blind Pig and Pliny are so mellow in the finish, this one had a down-to-business hop bite on the finish, almost got me thinking that this has to be one of the brewer’s favorites for after work!
