4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 DeadGirl (473) - La Jolla, California, USA - FEB 19, 2010
On tap at San Diego Brewing Co. (San Diego, CA): Pours a clear, dark orange with a 1/2 inch white resilient head. Aroma of citrus, earth, bread crust, orange zest, and grass. Flavors of resin and citrus pith. I’m raving on this beer so much, I just can’t wait to get my hands on RR’s Blind Pig. Drinkability: Dry, firm, and robustly hoppy. Pairing: A big fat burger with chipotle sauce. Rebuy: Yes. #283 on 19022010, DG.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 womencantsail (3572) - Home of Rebecca Black, California, USA - FEB 16, 2010
A: RR IPA pours a clear, dark, amber color with a nice white head and quite a bit of lacing.
S: The smell is quite good, but when you compare it to the likes of Pliny the Elder and Blind Pig, it’s got quite a bit to live up to. Quite a nice grapefruit quality, and lots of pine.
T: The initial flavor is quite a bit of bitter grapefruit and then followed by a forest worth of pine flavor. The finish is very, very bitter.
M: The body is medium and there is a fairly high level of carbonation.
D: This is quite a good, easy drinking IPA. As many who know Russian River will tell you, it’s hard to drink some of their other hoppy beers when you have Pliny the Elder on tap for the same price.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Aubrey (3125) - Bellingham, Washington, USA - JAN 18, 2010
On tap at brewery: Light gold in color. Sweet, inviting nose. Nice head. Crisp and snappy mouthfeel. Bold hops provided notes of sharp pine, grass and citrus, along with a solid amount of finishing bitterness. Very aromatic. Malts were light, as they should be, but they were nice, offering honey and caramel elements into the mix. Rather enjoyable.

rating from notes from my SD trip. on tap at stone. pours a clear, copper-gold with a big, fluffy, white head. aroma is very pliny-esque with fresh, herbal, citrus hop notes, pine resins, and mild toffee malts. flavor is delicious with huge, herbal, piney hops backed by citrus notes of orange and grapefruit with sweet, toffee malts coming through ahead of the spicy, herbal hop finish. palate is medium bodied and nicely carbonated. overall, a damn nice ipa from russian river that is basically PtE without the complexity and tropical fruit notes.

On draft at the brewub in Santa Rosa.
Pours a dark golden yellowish orange that is clear for the most part with pale golden hues when held to a light source and a two finger soapy white head that has decent retetion, only slowly fading into a lasting cap and ring.
Nice sweet citrus hop aroma with lots of uberfresh sank oily hops. Hints of lemon peel, mango and grapefruit. Slight earthy pine and subtle malt presence but this one is all about the fresh hops.
Uberfresh dank oily medium body with incredible fresh hops bursting through. This beer is a bit more dry than I expected but still has a lot of sweet citrus notes. Plenty of lemon peel, grapefruit and mango to go along with the dry earthy pine. Dry finish. ABV is invisible and this is so flavorful that it’s dangerously drinakble. Highly recommended!

Pours a pale orange with a white head and nice lacing. Aroma is grapefruit, earthy and floral hops. Flavor is bitter and the palate is nice but the bitter lingers a bit long ending up astringent like. Solid tho.
