Shared by drabmuh at my tasting on May 29, 2010. Thanks Matt! This beer is mostly clear, with a slight haziness. Nice head, lacing, and effervescence. Aromas of hops and pine. No malt to be found in these scents. As it should be. The taste was surprisingly simple as compared to either Pliny or Blind Pig. The mouthfeel was nice, if you like IPAs that are very hop forward and bitter, which I do. A tasty beverage I’d be happy to drink again.

Aroma is fairly hop forward with a good grapefruit and pine resin aroma along with a bit of a sweeter citrus note and lemon. light cracker malt aroma to balance out the hops. Pours a fairly clear golden orange with a thick white head that has good retention. Good lacing. Flavor is fairly malt forward at the beginning with lots of cracker and a faint sweet caramel note. Mid palate the hops and bitterness hits along with the hop flavor. Hop flavor is grapefruit and pine resin with a light orange note. Bitterness is moderately strong and lingers in the finish with a hint of alcohol. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium high carbonation. Low astringency and medium low alcohol warmth. Finish is a bit sticky but fairly dry. Overall, a good clean IPA but the style has moved towards a more hop forward profile, especially in the aroma. I also prefer IPAs that are drier than this one.

(Draught) Pours golden with an off-white head. The aroma holds grapefruit up front with undertones of floral perfume, tart peach, passion fruit, mango, honey, nectar, yeast and dry toast. Clean and bright on the nose. The flavor is near dry, medium bitter and light acidic with grapefruit, flowers and grass. Hints of toast, bread, pine and fruits. The mouthfeel is clean, soft and round with a light to medium carbonation. Long, grapefruity finish. Medium bodied.

Possibly the only RR brew I had been dissapointed by, so far... it pours golden, kind of hazy with an inch head. Smell is very hop foward with some wood in there for some reason. Taste is also very hop foward towards mango and grapefruit but it was just too bitter (with earthy notes) and dry for me. Which is something you usually dont get from rr ipa’s. but this maybe really good if you in to that.

Tap@ the brewpub, 13/08/12. Thin-draped gold. Honey and lemon throatsweet aroma; zest and lychee. Veering into peach and rose but stingingly leafy and dry with a grapefruit-bitter finish. Honeyed thickness, husky malt. Good but too peachy for me and overpowered by The Pig.

This one has the most bitterness to malt ratio of any of the RR pale ales. And I love it!

210712. Tap at Russian river brewery. Pours clear golden with a medium head. Arena citrus, hops. Slight bitter finish. Not Bad.

Draft at Russian River. Pours deep orange, with a distinctive green cast. Nose is very woodsy and dense, very unusual for a hoppy Russian River brew, at least to me... I normally find them so light and airy... Further nosing is rewarded with big spruce. and weighty, fleshy, grapefruit. Flavours have a distinct caramel-smoke twist, with more grapefruit, very weighty and almost oily.... Very big, quite bitter and rather food-oriented. not at all what I expected, but thoroughly enjoyable.

Draught at the brewpub
Aroma is fruity with resin and some hops. Flavour has fruits, some resin, mango and floral notes. Moderate hop bite in the finish. Refreshing and not too sweet. Some similarities with Pliny the Elder, but this one is less aggressive.
