3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Growler @ a recent bottle share... Poured mildly reddish, mostly brown with a thin head. Sweet and malty. Candied sweetness with some Belgian yeast presence. Alcohol sweetness and booziness came in too. Belgian candied sugars again in the finish. Some baking-like spices with dark fruits and mild esters too.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at Pi Bar in San Francisco, served in a stem glass. Pours dark chestnut with a moderate tan head that mostly remains and leaves behind a moderate amount of fine lace. On the nose, there are notes of toasted malts, molasses, and a hint of sour fruit, along with earth and very subtle hops. The flavour is moderately sweet, with rich malts, earth and roastiness. There is perhaps a hint of sour undertone, which feels strange for the style. On the palate, it is medium in body with a smooth creamy texture and soft carbonation. Overall, this is a decent quad, but not as great as I had expected from Russian River. 2012-02-15

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Growler shared by Thorpe429. Thanks Mike!
The beer appears a hazy shade of brown, with little activity in the way of carbonation. The head is undersized, thin, and wispy, generating virtually no lacing upon the tulip glass.
The aroma is of sweet malts, dark fruits, particularly raisins.
In both the nose and flavor, I find myself missing the yeasty, bready character associated with the style. The beer has a prominent raisin and sweetened malt taste, with additional notes of caramels soaked in alcohol.
The beer is pretty smooth, given the double digit abv. Carbonation wasn’t an issue as I thought it would be, based on the appearance.
Underwhelming. A mediocre beer from what is possibly the best brewery in the country. Not nearly in the same league with the great Belgian quads like Rochefort, Chimay, Westvleteren, St. Bernardus Abt 12, etc.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
A - Served a brown-ruby color with a finger of finger of frothy off-white head. Fades at a normal pace leaving behind some nice lacing.
S - Aroma is full of sweet dark fruits, raisins, dark cherries, and plums. Also some candi sugar and rich sweet malts. Bit of booze comes through as well.
T - Starts off with some sweet rich dark fruits with plum and raisin coming through. Some candi sugar and a bit of earthiness. Through the middle, some dark cherries and a touch of booze starts to come through. Finish is a mix of rich dark fruits, candi sugar, and some booze alongside with a touch of Belgian yeast.
M - Full bodied with moderate carbonation. Smooth with a big sweet warming finish.
D - Very drinkable. Nice balance of big sweetness and warming earthy flavors. Not overly boozy.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Tap @ RR. Hazy red-amber pour with a short, persistent, off-white head leaving heavy lace. Nose is ripe fruit and a promise of EtOH. Medium-heavy body with fine, creamy carbonation. Ripe peaches, Brett, cinnamon, tobacco and oak. Finish is medium, with more oak and tobacco. Lots of umami in this one, but there’s also plenty of sweet ripe fruit and bitterness from hops and the high ABV. Really, really good and really, really strong. Other Quadrupels have a long way to go to out-do this brew. Redefines the style for me.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Tap at RR Brewpub. It pours deep ruby-amber, with a white head. The nose is sweet candy floss/icing sugar, jam and dark fruits - plum and red grape. The taste is boozy, dark fruit: raisin, currant, plum, fig and red grape, vinous, wood, spice, jam and alcohol warmth, with a dry finish. Very fruity and well balanced. Full body and moderate carbonation. Good stuff.

On tap at Russian River in Santa Rosa, CA. Very dark brown pour with a hint of red. This is the type of full bodied beer that I love. Could taste the cloves and hints of oak. Very well done beer.
