Commercial Description:
Pliny the Elder was a Roman naturalist, scholar, historian, traveler, officer, and writer. Although not considered his most important work, Pliny and his contemporaries created the botanical name for hops, "lupus Salictarius", meaning wolf among scrubs." Hops at that time grew wild among willows, much like a wolf in the forest. Later the current botanical name, humulus Lupulus, was adopted. Pliny died in 79 AD while observing the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. He was immortalized by his nephew, Pliny the Younger, who continued his uncle's legacy by documenting much of what he observed during the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. Pliny the Elder, the beer, is brewed with 40% more malt and over twice the amount of hops as compared to our already hoppy IPA.

Bottle. Poured a nice orange color with a decent sized head. Smelled very strongly of pine and citrus. Taste was the same with enough malt to make it not too overly bitter.

Copper color with a medium sized off-white head. Huge aroma of pine and citrus. Flavor is similar to aroma with a finish that is almost sweet, although that’s probably only in comparison to the bitterness on the front end. The most well balanced Double IPA I’ve encountered

Bottled, thanks vode! Copper color. Pungent hop aroma with pine, lemon, apricot, dank and black currant. The flavor follows the aroma with strong yet soft bitterness. Great long aftertaste. Even the mouthfeel is rich in hop polyphenols. This is all about hops, and almost perfect as such. Hard to say how this could be better. Thanks vode for a fresh bottle (Brewed March 2009).

Thanks hophead22. Pours orange with a frothy off white head. Huge pine aroma with some citrusy grapefruit and floral notes, but predominantly pine. Flavor very consistant with the aroma heavy pine. Slightly under-carbonated , however otherwise I model to be followed for other iipa’s.

not really hoppy enough for a regular IPA, much les and Imp. IPA. It’s almost as if Sam Adams had brewed it. Thanks to either Daknole, Oakes, or Beershine- bottle was open when I got there.

Poured a golden color with a thin white head. The aroma is amazing, floral, citrus, piney, it is like walking through a hop farm, exquisite. The flavor is complex, you get some pine from the hop still, a little malt but mostly hop. This is a great beer for a hop head, I can find nothing to dislike about this beer.
