Pours peachy golden with very fine, quickly dispersing head. Very appealing in the glass, makes me want to take a sip. Aroma. Grapefruit, pine, lemons. Citrus and pine. Waves of it.Taste - more grapefruit and resin, mmm, a hop explosion, with lasting bitterness. Hints of turkish delight. Very fine in the mouth soft bubbles allowing full the hop flavour thru. Don’t taste the alcohol. So hoppy but so light. A gorgeous drop VikingHammer (362), Lynnfield, Massachusetts, USA

Looked dark orange with a small white head. This was in a dark bar, so excuse me if I am wrong. Wonderful aroma of pine and citrus hops. This IPA was so good, that my awesome girlfriend(not an IPA fan) really enjoyed it. Shared with a German hop farmer(awesome guy). Great experience, awesome beer. Thanks Russian River and Deep Ellum for this great IPA. joKing (8), New Zealand does not count | 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 20/20 | Apr 23, 2009 This bottle is the same as the other bottles I’ve had in NZ. And I think it is unbelievable... here is why:
It has so much drinkability. I can appreciate the lovely Caramel notes in there... the peaches, passionfruit and pine on the nose: they are all so obvious. There is so much balance on the palate. The flavour follows through perfectly - there are no hidden suprises... no even with bitterness. It’s not too think, not too thin, not too sweet and not too dry.

| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Apr 22, 2009 This beer is ridiculous. If Pliny the Elder were a woman, I’d marry her and we’d never leave the bedroom. I’m talking about the beer, of course, not the Roman historian. From draft or from the bottle, once it’s in a glass you want to drink it with your nose. I haven’t actually tried that yet, but I might. I just might. I heard on a recent tour of Dogfish Head Brewery that Russian River bought their fermenter from Sam at Dogfish. I think Pliny learned from the spirit of the DFH 90 Minute how to be a hoptastic brew. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 20, 2009 I think they should call this PINEY the Elder. Lots of piney hops in the aroma and the flavor. Much less citrusy than PtY, but a little tighter as well. Finish is tight piney bitterness that leaves you lip-smacking minutes later. crizay (1050), Brook Park (was Tampa,FL), Ohio, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 19, 2009 Hazy orange pour, small sticky white head. Aroma is grapefruit but not as big as I thought it would be. Flavor is a big grapefruit blast and damn is this beer dry, it’s like chewing on hops. Very resiny aftertaste and it’s stripping the taste buds off of my tongue. Almost too bitter but the focus is defintely just on hops here. Overal a bone dry grapefruit bomb and I expected a little more out of it. kimcgolf (828), Dacula, Georgia, USA

While not quite up to the standard of its Younger nephew, a damn fine beer. Like the Younger, poured to a light orange-amber color, with thin white head and good lacing. The nose and taste, while a little subdues than PTY, were still strongly citrus hops with a hint of floral, as well as alcohol kicking in at mid-glass. Mouthfeel was dry and bitter, all rounding to a long, somewhat bittersweet finish. porterhouse (1152), Alna, Maine, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Apr 18, 2009 (500 ml bottle ("bottled on 03 09 09") via trade with WeeHeavySD, thanks Jon!) Pours hazy light golden amber with two fingers of off white head. Strong aroma of pine and grapefruit, fairly sweet and a bit sweaty. Mouthfeel fairly smooth but lightly pebbly, a touch sticky. Light, droopy, foamy rings of lacing. Flavor of big pine and grapefruit - quite bitter and biting. Hints of softer caramel sweetness underneath but very hop-dominated. Hops are a bit juicy and have a hint of sweat. Some alcohol apparency at times. I need a little more malt backbone to really like a big IPA and this one was just a bit unbalanced for me.
