Hoppy aroma of grapefruit and pine. Tastes much the same. Pretty well balanced, but the malty tastes don’t ever really break through like they do in some IIPAs. Nice full mouthfeel and hop finish. jerk (13), North Carolina, USA
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Mar 2, 2009 Pours a nice orange color with a small white fluffy head, that quickly fades away.Aroma is beautiful...nice citrus (oranges and grapefruit) dominate the nose, with some pineapple, pine, some malty carmel and a nice breadiness. Wow this is the best smelling DIPA i have ever come across.
Flavor is amazing...bold citrus hits me as soon as it hits the lips, pine, caramel and the breadiness. Nice bitterness from the hops, this is so balanced.
Smooth, creamy mouthfeel texture with a bit of oily hops. The bitterness hangs around just long enough, then it smooths out. Nice carbonation.. drjay44 (772), Salida, Colorado, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Mar 1, 2009 500 ml. bottle. Pours an initially thick head, which diminished into a thinish layer with some areas reminiscent of sea foam, some lacing, over a slightly cloudy golden body with a bit of sediment.....nose is a pine forest with attendant citrus groves, pine, resin grapefruit, lemon.....tastes initially of sweetish malts the hop build occurs with resiny citrus tones, ending with solid short lived bitter finish with grapefruit dominating...mouthfeel is lighter than anticipated...the high ratings on this are most certainly based on the incredible balance and its relative lightness in spite of the amount of ingredient. ggaughan (94), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Luxembourg
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Mar 1, 2009 My Pliny the Elder poured a vibrant gold color into a Duvel tulip glass and I was suprised that when I completed the pour a great white head arose from the bottom of the glass and gave me a nice big piney, hoppy aroma that was so refreshing. The taste does not disappoint either. For a hop lover this beer is great. The bitter hoppy taste and citrus on the tongue and all through my mouth make this a very drinkable beer but at around 8% it is dangerous to put down and not have another. You can definitely taste the hops in your mouth long after the beer has gone down your throat as if you are sucking on a pine cone. I will be sure to savor this one over a night or 2 until the growler is all empty. brokephibroke (140), Mead, Colorado, USA

Floral, pine some citrusm but best of all it makes me salivate (seriously). Bitter, lingering fruity and drying. It is a chewy big beer The further into the glass, the more I appreciate the sweet balance of the malt, but it is the hops here that star. slowrunner77 (58), reno, USA

Sweet and fruity hops mixed with a little pine. Tastes smooth with fruityness and sweets into a lingering citrus hoppiness. Lightly piney. Very nice. NachlamSie (1637), Tennessee, USA

Bottled on January 23, 2009. I love the lengthy warning on the label, in summary: Do not age IPA’s. Yes, those are words of the gospel preached directly to the choir. Anyway, this pours a cloudy orange with a huge fluffy white head. oh my mighty hops. I bow down before the tremendous, omnipotent, glorious hop aroma. Sheer powerful, bitter grapefruit, pine, weed. Just imagine these things as clean, as crisp, as bitter, and as strong as possible in a liquid. The super definied hop onslaught continues on my palate as it dries out my mouth. Grapefruit, orange, lemon, deeply penetrating acidity. The palate is vibrant, extreme, and scrumptulescent. The finish has hints of pineapple and wood. This is beer is extreme.
