Commercial Description:
Pliny the Elder was a Roman naturalist, scholar, historian, traveler, officer, and writer. Although not considered his most important work, Pliny and his contemporaries created the botanical name for hops, "lupus Salictarius", meaning wolf among scrubs." Hops at that time grew wild among willows, much like a wolf in the forest. Later the current botanical name, humulus Lupulus, was adopted. Pliny died in 79 AD while observing the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. He was immortalized by his nephew, Pliny the Younger, who continued his uncle's legacy by documenting much of what he observed during the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. Pliny the Elder, the beer, is brewed with 40% more malt and over twice the amount of hops as compared to our already hoppy IPA.

A fine demonstration of why the USA is now taking over the leadership of new and innovative beer. It’s really good for the strength, and drinks from the bottle very well. I personally preferred the bottle rather than the cask - what a heathen! Not the best of the best, but in the 95th percentile.

Wow! Got this from my friend Tom in CA. One of my new favorite double IPAs. Great balance if your a hop head and love an IPA with good malt flavor and a nice hop bite.

This is a great beer. Super hoppy. The bitterness really lingers on the palate. Aroma is phenomenal, grass and hops. Not much wrong at all with it. As far as IPAs go, it doesn’t get much better.

Bottle, 50cl. Pours a clear golden beer with an offwhite head. The aroma has lots of american hops, with citrus and pine. The flavor explodes with complex hops. The palate has a really nice bitterness and overall this is a fantastic and complex beer. #600

Had this for the first time on tap at Stone Brewery in San Diego. Wow, the hype that I heard about before hand was not hype at all. This beer lives up to what everybody says. Great aroma and flavor. Not over the top in either like you see in some DIPA’s.

500 ml bottle- pours a deep yellow straw with excellent clarity and frothy white head. Nose- intense hop nose of fresh hops- pine, tropical fruit, you name it. Just a blast of hop goodness. Its a hop head’s dream. They should make a cologne that smells like this. Taste- sweet tropical fruit followed by cookie dough and caramel. The hop bitterness shines through in the finish with no trace of astringentness. Body is quite light for the strength of the beer, carbonation is spot on. A true gem.

A clear amber beer with a small white head. Fruity hop aroma, piney and citrus notes. Strong malty flavor, notes of caramel and wood. Dry and hoppy end.
