Commercial Description:
Pliny the Elder was a Roman naturalist, scholar, historian, traveler, officer, and writer. Although not considered his most important work, Pliny and his contemporaries created the botanical name for hops, "lupus Salictarius", meaning wolf among scrubs." Hops at that time grew wild among willows, much like a wolf in the forest. Later the current botanical name, humulus Lupulus, was adopted. Pliny died in 79 AD while observing the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. He was immortalized by his nephew, Pliny the Younger, who continued his uncle's legacy by documenting much of what he observed during the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. Pliny the Elder, the beer, is brewed with 40% more malt and over twice the amount of hops as compared to our already hoppy IPA.

Crushed with TheDude. Golden pour with light, white head. Aroma is floral, citrusy, piney: tons of hops. Flavor is very hoppy, yet not just overly bitter, there’s a wide range in the flavor profile. Maybe a bit of bitter herbs in the end. This is about as awesome as it gets.

Crushed with Honkeybra. Hops. No shit. Great combination of hops. Oh yeah. And I have something to say about the hop presence in the flavor: yum. A surplus of flavor and aroma hops without an incredible bitter presence. Great grab, Honkey.

This starts with huge piny hops, with a touch of caramel sweetness hiding beneath. Pours a clear amber with a thin white head on top. Wow... tasting it is almost like drinking nice pure hops. Strong and bitter, with the malts just being pulled along in the wake. I really wish this was available in my neck of the woods.

Draught at Falling Rock Taphouse. Clear dark amber - white head. High hoppy, high bitterness, light sweetness, nutty, berries, fruity, high resin, pine, grape, citrus, a bit sharp hoppy. Lovely.

On tap at Hamilton’s. Pours a clear amber-gold, with a white ring. Sweet and bitter hops aroma, with pine and citrus. Sharp hops taste that picks up increasing bitterness, with pine and a hint of herbs. Nice lingering bitterness. Great IIPA.

Pale amber with a thick creamy beige head. Strong fruity hoppy aroma. Quite hidden the ABV but not flavourful as I expected. Good bitter aromatic dry end.

Hmm...I have been waiting to try this beer for over two years now. So, there is no way it could have possibly lived up all of my expectations. Having said that, if I lived in SoCal, I’d drink it...ALOT. Great citrusy grapefruit nose. Color is brite! I have to wonder why they filter this beer. Filtering strips alot of the essential hop characteristics. So, as good as it was, how good would it be unfiltered? Overall, I am a very happy boy. Pliny rocks!!!!
