COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Pliny the Elder was a Roman naturalist, scholar, historian, traveler, officer, and writer. Although not considered his most important work, Pliny and his contemporaries created the botanical name for hops, "lupus Salictarius", meaning wolf among scrubs." Hops at that time grew wild among willows, much like a wolf in the forest. Later the current botanical name, humulus Lupulus, was adopted. Pliny died in 79 AD while observing the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. He was immortalized by his nephew, Pliny the Younger, who continued his uncle’s legacy by documenting much of what he observed during the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. Pliny the Elder, the beer, is brewed with 40% more malt and over twice the amount of hops as compared to our already hoppy IPA.

Draught > Russian River. God damn this is good. It's not La Cumbre Dank but it's f'ing good. Right up there next to Maine Lunch. Dry as hell and light. Pretty darn easy drinker. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Found it on tap when out with a good friend from out of town. It was nice to share the experience of drinking one of the best beers in the world - it lived up to the hype ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draft in Philly at Monk's Cafe. Yellow gold. Big bitter Grapefruit and pine note up front with just a slight malt character to balance the hops. The overall taste is that of a hoppy big dipa but, the standout factor is the dry finish and incredible drinkability. Super smooth for this style. This is a perfect dipa all around! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Just perfect.... not in your face flavor like must triple ipa nor lack in taste like a single ipa, but just right... Simply well balance. It has the perfect punch of bitterness, sweetness, hoppiness, and citrus. Great piny hint also...just refreshing...

Light orangish almost strong tea like color. Hops smell is strong. I ventured to San Francisco to get this on tap to do it right. Tastes extremely hoppy but finishes smooth. I believe this is where the magic is with a hyper hopped but balanced beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Super hoppy and intense herbal notes on the nose. So smooth and velvety, light caramel, juicy and spicy. Fresh herbal flavors, grassy, fresh and delicious, juicy. Gawd!

Aromas of citrusy, tropical, and piney hops, some honey. Clear golden orange with a fully lasting white head. Dry, bitter, hop-forward, but with a great nutty, honeyed malt backbone. Light-medium bodied.

Bottle courtesy of Willy J, thanks for the coast to coast same day transport. First, off... not the first to the (pun)chline here I’m sure, but it’s more like "Piney the Elder" if you ask me. Pours super clear gold, small white head. Aroma is major pine, hop resin, grapefruit rind, sweet malt, caramel. Taste is a very sweet and delicious hop bomb. Super smooth, med body... Really beautifully executed / amazing balance.
