4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 toby00777 (135) - California, USA - MAR 28, 2012Clear golden amber color with tiny rising bubbles. The off-white head is thin and frothy. Aroma is explosion of citrus and pine. Piney hops come through right up front followed by an awesome creamy bitterness. Very nice.
4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 bigaddie (55) - - MAY 22, 2013
Pours a lovely, clear, golden ale with not much of a head but good lacing. Great, sweet aroma of mangoes and papaya. Very tropical fruit in depth with a hint of pine finish.
The taste of sweet tropical fruits with peppery notes and grassy towards the end. The finish is excellent with a lingering flavor of hops that makes you want to take another sip. The balance of this beer is remarkable and the smoothness of the palate makes it extremely drinkable.
It is usually far better on tap though this bottle (6 weeks old) is still pretty darn good. Would have to review it again when had on tap.

Admittedly not my favorite style. Smoother than you’d expect from such a hoppy beer.

Pours a slightly cloudy yellow, lighter in color than many other doubles. Nice white head with lasting and lacing. Citrus aroma, not overwhelming. Well balanced hop and slight malt taste that impresses but doesn’t linger. Makes you want more.

Well balanced with good citrus and floral notes. Very smooth for an 8% beer. Easy to drink, and a definite gateway beer for those new to DIPAs

Aroma-Not to overwhelming like most DIPA's. the traditional pine scent comes out very clean
Appearance-Not a bright bold orange, but still a crisp orange brown reflection. Very pleasing to the eye.
Taste-Simple mouthwatering perfection. If I could put this in a CamelBak and drink a liter a day, I would. What sets PTE apart is how smooth but subtlety intense it is. It's a toss up b/w PTE and Hopslam as the best readily available/bottled DIPA on the planet. With that said, I have Headytopper and Dreadnaught coming in this week.
Palate-Like liquid velvet pine scented grapefruit. The 8% isn't even noticeable. My palate told me afterwards that he almost died from euphoria!
Overall-it's PTE and about as perfect a beer can get! With that said, it's not my #1, but it's darn close.
