Pours golden tinged with orange and hazy. Pretty thin, lacing, white head. A wonderful aroma of tropical fruit mix, mango, peach, loads of pineapple, and a nice, intense presence of bitter hops. Astonishingly rounded, fruity, crispy, hoppy taste hit your palate hard. Aftertaste of bitter, spicy, peachy hops is just amazing, it lasts and lasts for ages. All this is supported with a perfectly balanced malt base and soft carbonation. I really had some hard time finishing this, since I knew that it would end. More of this and a lot. harbuck76 (134), El Cajon, California, USA

Nose is citrus hops like pineapple and bitter orange. Taste is so delicious. Creamy, oily, great match between the sweetness and hops, some citrus oily hops, and sweet malts. DIPAs do not get much better than this. Complex in both nose and smell I think the freshness of only 15 days old helped this one. DeadGirl (243), West Palm Beach, Florida, USA

So light and refreshing- and the perfect balance of hops. The 8% abv is only noticablable by it’s warming effect. This finish is the best I’ve ever had. Dangerously drinkable times ten. humulushound (142), British Columbia, Canada
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jun 14, 2009 Had this on tap at Malt and Vine in Washington State. Amber-orange color with one finger of dense off-white head. Smell is an inviting combination of floral, citrus and piney hop oils. Flavor is an aggressive tornado of hoppy grapefruit, hoppy pineapple and tangerines, caramel-hops, light yeast-hoppiness, and a hint of biscuits with hops baked into them.... The hops just seem to romace every over flavour.... Somehow the finish remains smooth and lingering without being predominantly bitter. This beer is truly miraculous, both powerful/complex and smooth/drinkable. Cudos to the Brewmaster at Russian RIver for creating such a masterful and venerable Imperial IPA. waltersrj (64), Washington, USA

The nose is hops (lots of them), pine, citrus, lemon zest, and bready malts. The taste is similar with some floral notes and orange as well as slight butterscotch. The palate is smooth and delicious. cowhead (1), Chevy Chase, Maryland, USA does not count | 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Sep 3, 2009 Finally stumbled across the Russian River Company in Santa Rosa to try what I had only thought was urban legend. Everything as I had been told in perfect balance. Wonderful aroma, smooth not overly bitter flavors. After trying a very nice Blind Pig had to go back to the Elder as who knows when I will have the next opportunity. Hopper (336), San Antonio, Texas, USA

I could smell this beer all my life if I could. The taste is such a perfect balance of malt & hops. Right when the bitterness kicks in the malt backbone smooths it out perfectly. If there was one beer I had to drink the rest of my life this would be it. I wish it was easier to get.
