4.8 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 20/20
Seeing as Pliny has such an incredibly high rating, it has quite a bit to live up to, it has never disappointed me.
I chose to review it (finally) after my girlfriend brought me a 2 liter growler full of it when she had stopped at the brewery on her way back to So. Cal.
The color of this beer is a nice golden/slightly orange straw color with a good head on top.
The smell of this beer is amazing. I would say it is by far the most aromatically pleasing beer I’ve come across. Usually a (D)IPA has a pleasing smell, but this is on a whole different level. It’s really difficult to describe, but lots of citrus and some mild pine, very floral. The smell of this is better than the taste of many other beers I’ve had.
The taste is as you would hope/expect it to be. Lots of hoppy citrusy and bitter goodness. Hardly any malt on this one, but just enough to balance things out on the end. Many times with a really hoppy beer you get a powerful/off-putting aftertaste, but nothing of the sort here.

Bottle. Clear gold with a thin white head. Aroma is tropical fruit, citrus and resin. Taste follows. Light crisp mouthfeel and quick finish. Very excellent.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Draft at RRBC. Clear deep gold, fading white head. Huge sweet citrus and tropical aroma with green dank underripe fruit notes, some rich toffee beneath. Tastes of sweet caramel and toffee fudge then plenty of juicy orange hop flavour, bitterness, green dankness. This beer is not a punch in the face, it’s a green hop hug. Too drinkable.

4.7 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Excelente imperial stout americana.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
on tap. Orange foamy pour. Aroma heavy peaches and pine. Tastes the same - good representation of the hops. Good clean resinous finish. Nothing out of the ordinary - just a solid double ipa. way overrated.

4.5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Huge hop flavor and bitterness, but not tongue scorching. 8 percent is complete deception. One of if not the most drinkable double ipa I’ve ever had. Awesome brew.

Blind tasting, of Double IPAs & Single IPAs.
List of Double IPAs, in prefered order: The Crusher, Heady Topper, Pliny The Elder, Deviant Dale’s
List of Single IPAs, in prefered order: Focal Banger, Grapefruit Sculpin, Mralité/Blind Pig
A – Very distinctly clear, a bit more toward orange, weaker head compared to the others.
S – Straight forward grapefruit, quite dry, some alcohol to it, very classical west coast.
T – Taste is a bit thin compared to aroma, doesn’t live up to it... This one is very balanced and no distinct bitterness, it delivers a decent hop kick with floral grapefruit and citrus.
M – Quite thin, very sessionable, and refreshing.
O – Total of four people, 3 rated this one as third out of 4, one shared last, the hop intensity is A LOT lower, and it’s more balance focused.
