Pliny the Younger was Pliny the Elderís nephew, in the case of this beer, the "Younger" is a triple IPA. Pliny the Younger is hopped three times more than our standard IPA, and is dry hopped four different times.

I acquired a growler of the infamous Younger from vacax (thanks mate)! Served it in a Bruery tulip glass. I poured 3 glasses of RR brews and compared them. Blind Pig, Pliny the Elder and Pliny the Younger. A - A beautiful orange/copper tone with minimal head but amazing lacing that lasted the whole glass. A darker orange color than that of itís uncle. S - Chocked full of piney aroma! Compared with the Elder it was far more hop aroma, grapefruit, citrus and pine just fills your nose! Absolutely beautiful smell! T - Grapefruit, pine and citrus; just as the scent would allude to! Bitter! But, not over the top (believe it or not). It was a well balanced bitterness, no funny facial expressions after taking a sip of this beer. Insanely flavorful and potent! Some beers youíll need a few sips to get the flavor, this one is not that! If youíre offered a sip of the Younger, take it and youíll know how it tastes! No new flavors come through near the end! M - Medium bodied, nice carbonation that creates a little dance party on your tongue. The finish sticks around too, which I really enjoy in good beers. Itís a shame when they go away quickly, the Younger does not do this! D - 2 friends came over and we had the growler gone in less than an hour! 11% so be careful! This is no harder to drink than Blind Pig or Pliny the Elder! Amazing for such a big beer! I would say I was blessed to have been able to finally get this beer. I would love to get some every year! For anybody thatís wondering if they should try to pile into a small bar to try get this on tap, I would say DO IT!

Growler from BAís Mikeandi...Pours a golden orange with a fluffy white head...Aroma is very sweet with lots of floral and citrus hops, with some dank thrown in..Flavor is very sweet with lots of citrus. Nice hop bitterness with a slight alcohol burn..medium body with good carbonation...Well deserving of the hype.

a special thanks to Wavers1 for this growler. please, beleive the hype, this beer is makes me want to do flips. popping the top off the growler sends an immediate bouquet of dank and hops and piney resin. the appearance is beautiful with a head that lasts forever. the aromas are wonderful piney, a little citrus and throw in the best dank your medicinal provider can give you. the tastes lingers forever and the alcohol is well hidden. i will do everything to get another growler of this next year.

UPDATED: FEB 26, 2010 Wow what an amazing beer. Thanks to Mike and Diane for sending this out to DuffmanSW. I lost my notebook with the rating so Iím gonna wing it. Poured a clear golden color with beautiful head. Aroma was very very fresh hops, very floral and sweet with lots of pineapple and dank marijuana. Taste was like Elder on steroids with some alcohol present, super sweet and sticky with nice malty balance. Well balanced triple IPA that left a tiny bitterness on the pallet but a great aftertaste. One of my favorites.

Had the pleasure of having this on tap at the Brewpub in Santa Rosa, CA a few years back. To this day it is still my favorite beer. Period. I have nothing but superlatives to say about Pliny the Younger!

Finally got a chance to try the newest number one on Beeradvocate.com. Poured from the tap into a tasting glass. The color is a deep dark orange, is clear with a nice finger or two head. Some nice lacing on the glass. The smell is just hoppy from the start. The is some nice grapefruit and pineapple that comes out first to welcome the aroma into sweet and delicious hop dream. The taste is pretty hoppy but even balanced with a mellow fruity flavor. There are just a few fruits that cam into mind as I tasted this. A nice banana flavor with some grapefruit flavor mixed with a bit of melon. A wonderful fruit experience. The feel of this beer is pretty mellow. There is a few points that come out to pronounce themselves but there seems to be less of a kick to the Younger than the Elder and I was really happy to say I was a able to take my time with this beer and enjoy it. Worth the wait and the hype.

Had from a growler at RBWG 2010. Easily the best DIPA Iíve ever had. Amazing fresh hop flavor there with earthiness, citrus, floral, and more. The flavor is right up there as well, plenty of hop and bitterness but enough malt so itís not a crazy unbalanced mess. Love it!

Based on 4 10 oz drafts at Resurrection Ale House and Local 44 in Philly: It pours a copper, golden orange w. good carbonation, a decent, albeit thin head w. lacing all the way down the glass. The nose is a floral, citrus, hoppy explosion with pineapple, orange, lemon zest but especially grapefruit. The taste, while not what I would describe as complex, was just...well...perfection - bitterness perfectly offset by sweetness and malt and a peppery grapefuit fresh aftertaste. There is evidence of the alcohol in the warming finish but no hint of the 11% (so beware!). In short, maybe there is a better beer out there somewhere, but I have yet to find it; This is an awesome beer. In fact, having now over 320 different beers, this is THE best beer. period, Hands down. -
