Six malts and four hops go into this tasty dark ale. Hints of toffee, caramel, and chocolate are evident from aroma to finish in this approachable robust porter. 1.059 O.G / 40 BUs

At the brewpub on draught, from notes. Pours is dark brown and has little tan head. Aromas are chocolate and smokiness. Tastes are chocolate, smoke, and roasted malt. Body is medium with a long bittersweet chocolate finish. Overall, a great porter.

A - pours deep dark red brown with high tight bubbled head, very little lacing. S - nice rich simple aromas, toasted malts, coffee, bitter chocolate, and very subtle smoke?. M - lighter bodied brew. Lightly bitter, drier brew. T - toasted malts, coffee/coffee grounds up front. Notes of chocolate, bitter grass, molasses, toffee and a slight alcohol warming. O - pretty good rich bitter porter. 7-

A - Served a dark brown black with a bit of red coming through around the edges and a finger of frothy chocolate head atop. Head fades at a normal pace leaving some nice lacing behind. S - Aroma is full of roasted caramel malts and coffee. Touch of chocolate as well with a bit of earthy hop. T - Starts off with a mix of some roasted sweet caramel malt and a touch of coffee flavor. Through the middle some chocolate malt and a touch of earthy hop comes through. Finish is a mix of lots of roasted malts with a bit of chocolate and coffee lingering. M - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Very smooth with a toasty and dry mouthfeel. D - Very drinkable. Really nicely balanced and smooth porter. The flavors are a good mix of rich and very sessionable.

Nitro at Russian River. Deep, clear ruby pour with a thin but wildly persistent yellowish cream head. Full sheets of nitro lace. Nose is chocolate brownie. Taste is more meaty and smoky than the OVL stout. Thicker body but still not so thick for style. Sessionable, coffee bitter, saving grace of hazelnut butter and nutella. Richer palate. No citric tanginess. Nice stuff. Melted chocolate character is appreciated. No sugar or astringent notes. Good stuff. Palate is slightly tangy but immensely clean. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Sampled at Toronado, but also available at the brewery on my visit. Pours with a near black body with a lasting tan head and good lace. Aromas are bitter, earthy, dusty, bready, nutty, fudge, soil and caramel. Quite dry. Flavors are bready, grainy and nutty. Strong malt complexity with out a lot of malt (brown malt?). Medium bitterness, and decently dry. Medium bubbles, dry and lasting bitterness. Well put together (as always!).

Honestly, is there a bad Russian River beer? 16oz pour is a lightly viscous mostly opaque black with a creamy off white head. Malty, chocolatey aroma that has some bread, toast, cookie dough and brown sugar. Flavor Ian really solid and more of the same; malty, milk chocolate, brown sugar, multi grIn bread. Medium bodied, dry finish
