COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Six malts and four hops go into this tasty dark ale. Hints of toffee, caramel, and chocolate are evident from aroma to finish in this approachable robust porter. 1.059 O.G / 40 BUs

On tap at Russian River 4th Street Porter at City Beer. Great roasty aroma with coffee and chocolate, mild molasses. Light bitter hop smell - neutral. Mainly just a warm roasty smell. Dark dark brown clear with a little black, thin off-white lacing head. Medium bodied with medium-high carbonation. Starts with coffee and chocolate, roasted barley and nice grain notes. Molasses and some brown sugar. Mild hop finish with nutty coffee and bittersweet chocolate. After is nutty and sweet with light tang.

A: The pour is a deep, dark brown color with a finger’s worth of tan foam. S: Great notes of coffee, roasted malt, and chocolate. There is a slight smokiness and even a touch of vanilla. T: The flavor is a bit more heavy on the coffee and roasted malt with less of a chocolate presence. The smokiness is there as well, but once again just provides a bit of complexity. There’s also a slight bitterness on the finish. M: The body is on the full side of medium with a moderate level of creamy carbonation. D: Quite a complex and delicious porter. I have been looking forward to trying this one for some time and it did not disappoint.

On tap at Obriens. Dark brown pour, light tan head. Toasted malt, toffee, chocolate, light coffee notes, and smoke. I really enjoyed this, a very good porter.

On tap at brewery: Clear and deep red-brown. Tasty chewy chocolate. Nip of sour-bitterness. Nice amount of roast and toast, too. Great balance overall.

Pours a dark chestnut brown with deep mahogany edges when held to a light source. Completely opaque with a two finger frothy, soapy light beige head with excellent retention, only slowly fading into a lasting cap that streaks the glass with sheets of soapy lacing. This beer has a wonderful nose. The perfect amount of roasted malt balanced out by lots of chocolate, caramel, toffee, hazelnut and slightly burnt bread. Smokey enough without dominating the aroma. Slightly smokey medium body with the perfect balance of sweet chocolate, caramel and toffee and slightly bitter roastiness, bitter hops and lactic creaminess. Very complex, extremely well balanced and insanely quaffable. One of the best examples of the style I’ve ever had. Not to extreme yet not to light bodied. I could session this beer all night. Highly recommended!

Draught at Russian River. This should be bottled. Very chocolate/roasty taste to it. Nice body. Enjoyed it.

Draft @ Russian River. Pours a dark chocolate-brown color; creamy light-tan head with good retention and gorgeous lacing. Nicely toasty aroma: heavily roasted malts, bitter chocolate, and light tobacco / dried dark fruit notes; toasty, dense, beautifully crisp nose. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: heavily roasted / lightly charred malts, pleasantly bitter chocolate; very toasty, very dry and bitter chocolate notes; really solid, highly sessionable porter; very solid and well-roasted. Lengthy finish: loads of dry toastiness, bitter dark chocolate.

Handbottle from growler courtesy of Irishboy - Pours a brown color with a half finger thick tan head. Faint spotty lacing. Aroma is roasted malt, and light coffee and chocolate. Flavor is much of the same. I get a good dose of chocolate in the finish. Palate is a little thin. Overall, a nice beer. Thanks Richard.

Firkin @ Elysian Capital Hill - another highlight from SBW, though this one was a little bit of a letdown; lovely chocolate nose with very thin texture and flavor profile overall; kind of watery and flat; some roast and chocolate flavors, but this one was all in the nose; still hold out hope to try again at the source
