Six malts and four hops go into this tasty dark ale. Hints of toffee, caramel, and chocolate are evident from aroma to finish in this approachable robust porter. 1.059 O.G / 40 BUs

Rich roast malts again very smooth ... rich chocolate toffee ... good depth with quite a lot of hops in background ... Really quite stunning ... But id have put it much higher ABV... Tasting Notes from Fall 2000: Creamy, nice hop flavor going down. More of a stout than the norm, with a slight smoky aftertaste

A: The pour is a deep, dark brown color with a finger’s worth of tan foam. S: Great notes of coffee, roasted malt, and chocolate. There is a slight smokiness and even a touch of vanilla. T: The flavor is a bit more heavy on the coffee and roasted malt with less of a chocolate presence. The smokiness is there as well, but once again just provides a bit of complexity. There’s also a slight bitterness on the finish. M: The body is on the full side of medium with a moderate level of creamy carbonation. D: Quite a complex and delicious porter. I have been looking forward to trying this one for some time and it did not disappoint.

On tap @ Russian River. Pours a dark brown appearance with a creamy head. Dark chocolate, roast, light vanilla in the nose. Mouth feel is a touch rough. Dry, toasted flavor with a hint if coffee and some dark chocolate. Solid.

LCBS 2010. What a standout porter. Holy shit. Brown pour, tan head. Roasty, malty, chocolate aroma. Flavor is so smooth. Chocolate, dark fruits, roasted malt. Helluva porter. RR just kicks ass. End of story.

Deep brown pour with a thin, tan head. The nose is quite cocoaish and there is a bit of fairly pronounced chocolately character. Sweet but also fairly hoppy with lots of herbal/earthy hoppiness. It’s a pretty solid porter.

Nitro at Russian River. Deep, clear ruby pour with a thin but wildly persistent yellowish cream head. Full sheets of nitro lace. Nose is chocolate brownie. Taste is more meaty and smoky than the OVL stout. Thicker body but still not so thick for style. Sessionable, coffee bitter, saving grace of hazelnut butter and nutella. Richer palate. No citric tanginess. Nice stuff. Melted chocolate character is appreciated. No sugar or astringent notes. Good stuff. Palate is slightly tangy but immensely clean. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Dark brown, subtle coffee flavors, somewhat light bodied, some chocolate coffee in the finish... overall a light porter, but drinkable.

Sampled at Toronado, but also available at the brewery on my visit. Pours with a near black body with a lasting tan head and good lace. Aromas are bitter, earthy, dusty, bready, nutty, fudge, soil and caramel. Quite dry. Flavors are bready, grainy and nutty. Strong malt complexity with out a lot of malt (brown malt?). Medium bitterness, and decently dry. Medium bubbles, dry and lasting bitterness. Well put together (as always!).
