Six malts and four hops go into this tasty dark ale. Hints of toffee, caramel, and chocolate are evident from aroma to finish in this approachable robust porter. 1.059 O.G / 40 BUs

On tap at RR. Pour was a dark cola with a nice creamy head that lingered, even leaving some lacing. Great retention. Lots of roasted malts and dark fruit with a light coffee. Very dry, lots of roasted flavor with a very light smokiness. No real hop flavors stood out. This was all roasted flavors. Light coffee hidden through out. Light body, a bit thin, very porter like. Nice mild carbonation. This struck me more as a stout and not a porter. I was expecting a sweetness but this lacked that. It was ok, I doubt I try it any time soon. Reviewed on: 08-17-2010

Tap@the brewpub, Santa Rosa, CA, 13/08/12. Black with a pentagonal (?) slick of beige lacing finely. Chocolate, coal, burnt walnut and black toast in the aroma. High cocoa chocolate, mocha and slight blackberry beyond with pronounced US hop undercurrents. Hop-bitter, well roasted finish. Very nice.

Probably not the best porter i have had, but a Vinnie Porter nonetheless that was pretty good by all standards. A good black appearance to begin with that shed hints of ruby red when put up to the light. The head was absolutely not apparent which left only the porter and I! The aroma eminated hints of coffee, espresso, perhaps something chocolate, and was mainly roasty/smokyness with hints of malt. The taste is much of the same. Good smokey coffee taste with thin chocolate undertones. I found it to be fairly thin however...the smokey flavor somewhat overwhelmes what other things are going on here and tend to drown the other subtleties out, and all i taste is a heavy smokeyness and a thinness...which is basically the best i can put it. Still, a nice food beer. Ends very dry and stout like with a good malty smokey base, but that thinness...ugh...but i still like! =)

Tap at the brewpub: Deep brown/ruby hue with a dense light tan head. Chocolaty aroma- mild crystal malt back giving it a nice sweetness along with gritty roast. Creamy dense carbonation. Mildly sweet flavor of dark cocoa and nutty suggestions. Clean with a soft malt presence despite it’s robustness. An easy drinker.
