4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
Smell is deep dry fruit with a slight vinegar and citrus. Pours dark and consistent brown-black. Taste starts slightly sweet. At very first it seems like just another porter then quickly the sour builds. Prunes and vinigar top off with grapefruit which lingers at the end.

3 oz chilled pour from tap into cylindrical taster as part of Russian River’s “everything on tap” sampled (16 beers this time around) at the brewery itself. I realize that drinking 16 different 3 oz pours is not ideal for proper rating, but when will I ever have an opportunity like this again?
Not as I intense as the other two. Muted by an oak and smoke taste. Interesting. Tasty, but not my favorite soured beer.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap at Russian River. The pour is a nice black color with a hint of ruby poking through and a nice bubbly khaki colored head with great lace. The aroma is very chocolatey and roasty on the front end that moves through a little funk and a hint of sour. The flavor is really roasty. There is a lightness and some light pokes at sour coming through. It's like the barrel and the sour offset each other around the roasted malts. The mouth feel is a little light and the carbonation is soft and hidden. The aftertaste is lingeringly roasty. This is good, but there isn't a defined barrel or sour character to it. It could be much better, but it's not bad.

"Dark brown, small head. Wonderfully balanced aroma of lemons, light funk, wine, roasted barley. Well carbonated, giving it an additional sour bite. Flavor is quite sour though the porter comes through nicely as well. This is yet another world class sour beer from Russian River. Great brew!"
