The_Beer_God (2857), Newport News, Virginia, USA Jan 24, 2006 Bottle - corked and caged. Batch 001. This finally arrived! Ordered it at the beginning of January it it’s here!!! Popped out the cork and I guess it’s still a little "shaken" by the shipping because it gushed out of the bottle but thankfully my glass was nearby. After it settled, a beautiful, hazy golden nectar is revealed. There’s still a voluminous foamy white head, however. Nose is spicy and floral with lovely yeast notes. There’s mild cardomom, light lemon, in-bloom flowers, light barnyard, touch of leather, cloves, obvious Bretty aromas, and light candied oranges. Very nice! Taste is blissful! Delicate yeast, grains, lemon meringue, light pepper, light lemon peel, cloves, banana, floral hops, fresh mint, Brett notes, hay, light barnyard, and bit of earthiness. This is only 4.8%? Wow! Body is light and spritzy with lots of carbonation. Not unlike a saison. However, and I mentioned this with Sly Fox’s Saison Vos, this feels "full". Bit dry at times as well. Finishes with more lemon zest, grains, fresh flowery hops, light barnyard, candied orange, Bretty tartness and light woody notes. Russian River is one of the best breweries in the world right now and Vinnie has a lot to be proud of with this beer.
hapjydeuce (581), Carlsbad, California, USA Sep 3, 2008 Another backlogged rating from RBSG ’08, sampled at the Grand Tasting at Pizza Port Carlsbad. Pours blond with modest carbonation. Fruity nose of pear, peach and orange rind. Lighter breadish malt base and soft bitterness. Simple and elegant. illinismitty (1453), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Aug 30, 2008 Sampled at RBSG, and many thanks to the generous member that shared this one. Pours golden with a slight haze and white head. Nice fruity and yeasty nose. Soft pillowy texture and perfect mouthfeel. Flavor is simple yet addictive- yeast, pale wheat malts, lemon, and a hint of spice. Tartness is tame, but keeps it in balance. This is surprisingly good for a retired 4.8% beer. I bet this was even better fresh. Miver (435), WillowStreet, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 12, 2008 750ml bottle. Thanks Dickinsonbeer. Poured a cloudy gold in color with a medium sized white head which left a nice lacing on the glass. Aroma is yeasty, bready, with a little citrus. Taste is of straw, mild wet dog funk, spices, citrus, and overall a bit watery not a lot of brett. I was thinking this might have aged well with brett, but it really didn’t. miketd (375), Cleveland, Ohio, USA Mar 8, 2008 I can’t remember who sent this(odeed?), but thanks! Batch 1. Opened the bottle, and it was spewing for quite some time...very lively. Gold with a huge white head. Aroma is of sour yeast and citrusy lemon. A bit tart with a bunch of carbonation. Fairly thin body. Easily drinkable. xnoxhatex (791), Chicago, Illinois, USA Feb 20, 2008 Bottle shared by drewbeerme at an "Evening with Pantanap #3" Bottles 11/30/05 Thaks Andrew! Cloudy straw orange color wih huge white fluffy head. Light and sweet lemon aroma with rich citrus, a little funk. Grassy, peppery, grainy flavor, sweeter orange, like a blood orange, slight hops. Watery but still some carb. Past its prime, very earthy.
