Russian River has quite a reputation to live up to and of course many of us are looking for that sour punch! This is a Belgian Saison on wood. Very good, not great. I taste aspects of this beer in the Brux beer. This is soft with a touch of sweetness and a nice mild tart/bitter barrel flavor. Barnyard, lemon, very slight funk, wheat, refreshing. Goes great with a cheese plate.

Batch 071812. Pours to a sexy glowing golden body with a tall airy white head and gorgeous lacing. Aroma of straw, pineapple, passionfruit, and wheat. Flavor is clean like a wit. Almost a buttery component, but not like diacetyl. Passionfruit and star fruit. The palate is velvety and lucious. Rounded.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Hazy golden with thin white head that fades quickly. Aroma is sweet raisiny and floral with touch coriander/clove spice and a hint of banana. Palate is bubbly and light like a champagne. Taste is crisp with light sweet spiciness upfront and earthy malt and vegetable on the follow through. Tastes of coriander, clove, raisin, banana and yeasty malt. Aftertaste is lingering yeastiness with a touch of metallic bitterness. Overall pretty complex belgian ale with a lot of interesting things going on.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
375 ml bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 4/4/2013. Pours very hazy golden amber color with a 1-2 finger fluffy white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty foamy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of lemon, pear, apple, clove, wheat, pepper, coriander, floral, banana peel, grass, light funk, and yeast earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of malt and yeast ester notes; with good strength. Taste of lemon, pear, apple, clove, pepper, coriander, wheat, banana, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness. Lingering notes of light fruits, clove, pepper, coriander, wheat, banana, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance and complexity of yeast and malt flavors; with a nice malt/spiciness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium-high carbonation and medium bodied; with a smooth, crisp, and fairly prickly mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a damn nice Belgian blonde ale. All around nice balance and complexity of malt and yeast ester flavors; and very smooth and crisp to sip on. A very enjoyable offering.
