A - Served a dark black with a touch of brown and a finger of frothy tan-brown head. The head fades slowly leaving behind some good lace.
S - Aroma is a mix of roasted sweet chocolate malt with some bittersweet chocolate, Belgian yeast, dark fruit, and a touch of burnt caramel.
T - Starts off with some roasted milk chocolate with some deeper cocoa and Belgian yeast character. Through the middle, more roasted and lightly burnt malts come through with some more chocolate flavor, yeast, and some dark fruit. The finish is a mix of chocolate malts with some vanilla and Belgian yeast flavors.
M - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Feels smooth with a sweet and roasty finish.
D - Very drinkable. Really nicely balanced Belgian dark ale.

On tap at Pi Bar for the RRB SF beer week event. Pours a reddish-black with nice taupe head. Nice roast and even some hop on the nose. I do not get a lot of Belgian yeast here - seems more like an attempt at a CDA. Great roast and bitterness on the flavor. Very good.

Tap at RR for PtY. Served too cold. Taste is bitter, roasty, hoppy. Nose is light espresso roast. I like this but aesthetically it is lacking.

Taste like a belgum ale mixed with a stout. Has the darkness and malt flavor for a stout but the gold ale taste as well

10oz bottle at the brewpub pours a watery, deep mahogany brown, almost black with some creamy, cloudy white head. Nose is lightly smokey, malty, dark German rye bread, toast, a little grass, some waxiness, chocolate, wet soil. Flavor is malty, cocoa pods, a little grass, some noble hop bitterness, dried leaves, toasted bread. Very dry, chalky finish. An interesting take for Russian River.
