Growler. Pours an opaque chocolate brown with dark amber highlights. Head is beige and creamy and leaves a good amount of lacy. Aroma is faint, consisting mostly of roasted malt and very little of the esters I expected. Flavor is lacking in complexity; it’s mostly just roasted malt flavors and bitterness. I’m just not getting much of the "Belgian" in this one. Still a good beer. But for Russian River it’s definitely lacking.

Draft at Toronado-San Francisco, served in a stemmed glass. Pours a nearly opaque coffee brown with a small beige head that settles into a ring. Notes of earthy hops, chocolate, toasted and mild roasted malts, coffee, brown sugar, licorice, and dark dried fruits. Medium-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a sweet, malty mouthfeel. Good dark Belgian ale.

Lots os subtle layers to this dark roasty Belgian - like a well made Belgian porter. Dark fruit, oats, roasted malt, leather, yeast. Hope to have this again.
