egajdzis (3014), Terrapin, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 27, 2006 Poured a dark brown color with a medium sized, light tan head that left nice lacing that coated the glass. Aroma of toffee, yeast, malts, spices, and light citrus fruits. Taste is chocolately, with dried fruits, nuts, and a faint yeastiness as well. illidurit (431), Santa Cruz, California, USA Jun 6, 2008 On tap at the brewpub for RR’s 4th anniversary.
Pours an opaque, dark brown color with a tan frothy head that reduces rather quickly. Aroma is toasty malt and coffee with a touch of fleshy fruit. Flavor is of those See’s coffee flavored candies with some roasty bitterness and smoke. Chewy and sticky. Really smooth and drinkable. rkuhnel (1136), Eureka, California, USA Mar 28, 2008 At the Russian River Brewpub this pour was in a 13 oz tulip glass. Came with a nice 1/2 inch of very foamy tan head and left great lacing. Nose of dark malts, chocolate, and grassy hops. Very smooth mouthfeel. Flavor is of chocolate, coffee, fruit, and nuts. Smooth finish. This is one that makes you want to go back for a second, but I have to drive back to Eureka and want to save room for a Compunction. Another quality beer from Russian River. Oakes (6973), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Feb 11, 2006 Draught, at the brewpub Dark brown colour. Sweet character with rich malts, luscious chocolate and spicy hops. Very spicy, rich and a little toffeeish. Wow. Great style, complexity. Nutty, chocolatey, toffeeish, spicy hops, foresty hops...what’s not to like? aceofhearts (1373), San Francisco, California, USA Feb 12, 2008 Tap. Dark mahogany, moderate head. Nice texture on the tongue, very thoroughly covering all the taste buds but not overwhelmingly so. Jeez, that was the least inspired sentence I’ve ever used in a rating. Well-balanced with some nice malts. Chocolate tones, tobacco-grass aroma. Firm mouthfeel, good stuff.
