An interesting beer, that’s for sure. I tried it at Pi Bar in a small sampling (perhaps 8 oz) and really enjoyed it with its dark burnt malts and richer than average body. Then I had it again at Toronado in a larger sampling (14-16oz) after having an Elder...that was the mistake. It came up thin and boring with very little discerning character. Either way I’m confused by what this beer is trying to be.

Black Ale, 6,3% alk. 14,5 BLG
Ciemno brązowy kolor, wpadający w czarny. Niska do umiarkowanej, jasnobrązowa piana. Owocowe, lekko przyprawowe ciemne Ale. Walka dwóch światów: owocowych estrów z przyprawowymi fenolami. Ciemne owoce reprezentują śliwki, ciemne winogrona, rodzynki. Na przeciwległym biegunie ciastka, pierniki i gorzka czekolada. W tle belgijska drożdżowość. Długi, utrzymujący się owocowy finisz.
Piwo przeważnie warzone jest w okresie Walentynek.

Draft at Toronado-San Francisco, served in a stemmed glass. Pours a nearly opaque coffee brown with a small beige head that settles into a ring. Notes of earthy hops, chocolate, toasted and mild roasted malts, coffee, brown sugar, licorice, and dark dried fruits. Medium-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a sweet, malty mouthfeel. Good dark Belgian ale.

Lots os subtle layers to this dark roasty Belgian - like a well made Belgian porter. Dark fruit, oats, roasted malt, leather, yeast. Hope to have this again.
