This Belgian style Strong Dark Ale has a tawny brown color and aromas of banana and spice that dominate the initial bouquet of the beer. Lean malt flavors blend perfectly with fruit driven characteristics created by the classic Belgian yeast which fermented this ale. The alcohol content is deceptively smooth just like its sister beer Damnation. Brewed just once a year for a release in January.

1 pint, 9.4 fl oz. bottle purchased at Raja LLiquors in Livermore. The pour: deep dark color, but not translucent! The bouquet: raisins, subtle cloviness, cinnamon, allspice. The palate: definte roasted malts, a nice smokiness to it. nice sharpness in the immediate finish. The finish: toasty.. that’s all I can say. A high quality brew, kudos to Russian River Brewing!

Bottle thanks to Nielsen ! Pours a dull raw umber color with three fingers of khaki suds. Lots of sweet banana bread undertones, earthy spice, kola nut, candied anise, nutty bitterness, date, raisin, soft burnt sugar. Really well restrained yet packs a punch of flavors from beginning to end.

Sample at Russian River, Santa Rosa, CA. The sample pour was brought to me with several other beers, and is a dark maroon with an uneven thin head and active carbonation. Aroma is dark fruits, malt and spices. Flavor is same, mild and not aggressive. Alcohol is well-masked. From notes 2/19/13.

I thought this tasted a bit like a plum brandy, somewhat Christmassy. Pretty nice, overall.

Tap at Avery, same recipe but brewed at Avery for the Collaboration not Litigation Ale. Pours hazy copper brown with fine khaki head. Settles quickly with thin lace. Aroma is fruity, huge belgian yeast, ester, big banana, quite sweet. Flavor is banana, sweet and cereal malt, apple, with a fruity, grain and caramelized malt finish. Banana fruitiness is very big and sweet. Soft carbonation and medium body. Would be curious to see how this compares to a batch brewed at RR.
