Who’s afraid of the "big bad BRETT?" We’ll tell you who: winemakers! Because of our close proximity to several hundred wineries, we often get winemakers visiting our brewery. (After all, it takes a lot of great beer to make great wine!) Because we use 100% Brettanomyces yeast to ferment Sanctification, most winemakers will only smell the glass, and only a very few will venture to taste the beer. They think the Brettanomyces will attach to their clothing and end up in their winery. A simple solution was offered: keep a smudge pot burning at the door of our brewery so they can burn their clothes when exiting, but even that was not enough. After giving it more thought, we concluded that winemakers think Brettanomyces might scar their taste buds and possible even permeate their skin? Either way, Sanctification is one of the most unique beers you will ever taste! It was fermented with 100% Brettanomyces, rather than the traditional Saccharomyces.

Bottle at Mill Valley Market.. Fluffy white head that is truly bright white in color. Heavy lacing with bright gold color with nice clarity. Aroma is of white wine, white grape, green apple and with a touch of tartness in the finish. Light malt, some earthy notes, light tart flavors mix with green apple and even a bit of pear. A moment of roasted nut. Slightly acidic and tart finish. Some earth notes come back towards the end again. Very light with active carbonation that brings brightness. Slightly acidic, not overly so. Carbonating as I drink in the glass.. Genius and refreshing.

On tap at Russian River. Pours a hazy yellow. Aroma of some peach, with hints of cherry and banana. Taste follows with a nice mellow sourness to it. This was my first crack at a RR sour and I was pleased. Lighter body and easy to sip on and enjoy.

Bottle from a trade. Shared with Edgar at the house in small snifters. Pours a hazy golden yellow with a one finger fluffy head. Aroma is super fruity with apricots, citrus, peaches and a funky brett and barrel. The taste is so damn refined and smooth. Perfect sour brett funk and the fruits makes for a delicious sour. It is light and crisp. Finish is apricots and tartness. Very very good!

No retention and no lacing. Smells of sour grapes and wheat. Tastes of sour patch kids and sour apples. Crisp aftertaste. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

is this a Redemption with Brett? It was good, but i was super excited when it went on tap the day before my visit...and Consecration, which I had previously overlooked, blew it away. This was sour as expected, in the aroma and taste, but not as mouth puckering or as complex as I expected. a touch of barnyard funk, but less complex than i expected. very dry in the finish, which was it’s best quality." This has grown on me over the years.

2012 bottle. Aroma is a little funk, straw, sour, and a little plum sweetness in the finish. Very light body and a clean finish. Delicious beer. Brett did it’s job adding a little to the nose and flavor over time.
