Who’s afraid of the "big bad BRETT?" We’ll tell you who: winemakers! Because of our close proximity to several hundred wineries, we often get winemakers visiting our brewery. (After all, it takes a lot of great beer to make great wine!) Because we use 100% Brettanomyces yeast to ferment Sanctification, most winemakers will only smell the glass, and only a very few will venture to taste the beer. They think the Brettanomyces will attach to their clothing and end up in their winery. A simple solution was offered: keep a smudge pot burning at the door of our brewery so they can burn their clothes when exiting, but even that was not enough. After giving it more thought, we concluded that winemakers think Brettanomyces might scar their taste buds and possible even permeate their skin? Either way, Sanctification is one of the most unique beers you will ever taste! It was fermented with 100% Brettanomyces, rather than the traditional Saccharomyces.

On tap, pours a hazy golden color with a medium white head that leaves good lacing. Smells of banana, apple and Belgian yeast. Smells of all the same things. Mouthfeel is medium with good carbonation. Overall this is a great sour, the use of Brett and other strains made it a really interesting beer.

Draft at RR and a bottle later on. Funky tart Brett goodness, lots of grapefruit and lemon. Very gueze in character but more fruity and also a mild sweetness. A Brett showcase. Supremely well done.

On tap at Russian River Brewing in Santa Rosa, CA-USA. Cloudy yellow color, white foamy head. Nose: brett, lemon, lime cake. Fantastic complexity. Mouth: zest, watery soul, citric finish with a mild Brett redundancy. Fantastic! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

100% Brett Fermented, 6,75 % alk. 13 BLG

Kolor złoty, mętny. W aromacie ogromna wanilia, mokre drewno, bretty, stajnia, końskie siodło. Lekko-kwaśne, lekko-owocowe. Połączenie Brettów, cytrusów i zbóż. Wchodzi gładko. Finisz delikatny, krótki. Kwaśność umiarkowana, bardzo orzeźwiające, lekkie piwo. Dzikie, stajenne, świetne!!!

Blond-golden color, clean, with small head. Very nice aroma, very close to a Lambic, less strong; funky yeast, moldy cellar walls. Dry and smooth mouthfeel; again a lot of yeast character, bitter grapefruit, and some astringency in the final; more fruity than most Gueuze, a bit like a young unblended Lambic.
Excellent beer. Still, in Belgium they can brew beer with more depth at a fraction of the price, hence I give one point less.

375ml bottle. 6/19/15 bottle date. Appearance: Hazy light golden, with a thick white frothy head and nice lacing. Aroma: A strong, distinct funky brett aroma, with a noticeable citrus lemon and grapefruit component. Taste: Light, bready malt sweetness, a sharp acidic lemony citrus, and an earthy, funky brett component that is much stronger than what’s picked up on the aroma. Mouthfeel: Light to moderate body with a high carbonation. Finish: Lingering citrus tartness, but heavier on earthy funkiness Overall: Great beer and a showcase of a 100% brett beer. Not only does the brett provide the typical funkiness, but it also has a pleasant citrus peel flavor and acidity to add complexity. The fermentation of this beer produces an amazing amount of varying flavors. World class

375 mL bottle shared with ebone1988. The pour is a golden orange color with a thicker white head that falls down to a thick collar and a light film leaving some good lacing behind. The aroma is pretty good. There is a big sour right up front that is nice. It's got a juiciness to it, and a strong funkiness. It's pretty basic. I'm not complaining, but it's just a touch disappointing. The flavor is also a bit disappointing. There is a little bretty funk and a light sour to it. It's got none of the fruitiness in the flavor. The mouth feel is a little heavier. It's got a good crispness and a weird carbonation. The aftertaste is lingeringly funky with a hint of sour. I'm not sure how I feel about this...

UPDATED: MAR 20, 2016 Bottle shared with koleminer20, Gus, and others. Aroma is funk, skins, tart, sour, really really good. Appearance is golden, hazy, white head. Taste is funky, tart, barnyard, wheat. Mouthfeel is medium body, light carbonation, Brett aftertaste. Overall, hard to go wrong with Russian River.

Bottle smuggled into Mpls by associates of commonshawn. Consumed as part of March Madness planning meeting. Unfiltered light golden color with an ambitious head initially, minimal head as it rests. Aroma has a healthy dose of funk with a little saison feel. Taste has the sour qualities as expected when Brett is involved. Citrus is present with an effervescent characteristic. The finish and mouthfeel lean on the sour notes like you just sucked on a lemon. Very interesting beer that’s not really my wheelhouse but will go down in my books as a pleasant surprise.
