I guess I don't get it. I thought I love all craft brews... Until today. I always heard the hype of this beer style people called sours. And living by Russian River brewery, figured the first one I would have should be the best. The initial aroma was that of rotten moldy vegetables in the bottom produce drawer in my fridge. Then the taste hit me, Athletes foot mixed with fungus. Before you ask, yes it was fresh from the brewery. No aging was done. Never again will I go out of my way to try a sour. It was the first beer I didn't want to drink.

Really amazing sour ale. Very tart right up front and lingers the perfect amount.

Bottle courtesy of Chris. Delighted to try this one RR missing from my ratebeer history.
Aroma of lemon and apricot, brett leather and sour funk. Sweet champagne grapes. A heartening sweetness as well, unexpected in the nose. Aggressively carbonated, exploding on the tongue. The flavor brings lemon juice and leather, along with a characteristic Russian River neutrality. Brett dominates the sourness; this is not an exceptionally sour beer. A touch of butter. Little of the sweetness that comes forward in the aroma.

UPDATED: AUG 10, 2014 Bottle thanks to Edge and Margy for opening this. Pours cloudy yellow with a tight white cap on top. Nose is very lemon forward with plenty of shortbread and a very prominent sourdough note which works very nicely. Quite light sourness but very much comes across as a sour farmhouse type. Taste is dominated by lemon biscuit and that familiar sourdough note. As Elliot pointed out it’s almost like a pizza base. Sounds odd but it goes really well with the mild bretty notes and bright citric in it. Finish is dry. A straight down the line beer with no rough edges. Solid as hell

[Tap] Finally got to try this at City Beer in SF. Yellow pour with a fizzy and quickly receding soapy head. Tart and acidic nose. Green apple, pear, Brett, champagne and mild funk in the aroma. Brett, lemon, vinegar, yogurt, lactic notes and sour fruit zest in the taste. Lively carbonation keeps this beer from getting too heavy or acidic. Dry. I liked it a lot.

Bottle. Unsure of age. Pours hazy yellow/gold with creamy white head. Aroma is funk, more funk, basement, gym mat, hay, lemon. Taste combines those aromas. Lemon/funk coming through loud and clear. Some cab qualities. Not as tart on the finish as expected. I dig it!

Draft at brewery. Nose is lemon and a bit of hay with a tartness. Not quite in the gills tho. Pour is a hazy light gold with small white head that laces amazingly. Taste is nothing short of an amazingly well balanced sour. A light chest burn after a few sips but not overpowering. Really good.
