Who’s afraid of the "big bad BRETT?" We’ll tell you who: winemakers! Because of our close proximity to several hundred wineries, we often get winemakers visiting our brewery. (After all, it takes a lot of great beer to make great wine!) Because we use 100% Brettanomyces yeast to ferment Sanctification, most winemakers will only smell the glass, and only a very few will venture to taste the beer. They think the Brettanomyces will attach to their clothing and end up in their winery. A simple solution was offered: keep a smudge pot burning at the door of our brewery so they can burn their clothes when exiting, but even that was not enough. After giving it more thought, we concluded that winemakers think Brettanomyces might scar their taste buds and possible even permeate their skin? Either way, Sanctification is one of the most unique beers you will ever taste! It was fermented with 100% Brettanomyces, rather than the traditional Saccharomyces.

all the other ratings are either for a different recipe or something! tap from russian river brewing company claiming 6.5% and 100% Brettanomyces, clear and bright golden body, tiny soft head that disappeared to a fine ring, very sweet flavor that was very round and almost buttery - hints of clove and soft sugar sweet peaches, carbonation was almost perfection, i fell in love with this immediatlely! just wish i didnt have to drive to santa rosa to try it

Bottle shared at a tasting. Thanks Jon! Pours a straw yellow with some haziness and a one-finger white head. Brett forward barnyard nose with pears and light green grapes. Citrus and lemon zest notes along with some light green pineapple notes and bread. Short-lived finish but still solid.

Big Bretty nose with pears and barnyard and a bit too creaminess. Excellent low medium carbonation. Modestly sour with barnyard and funkiness which is fairly subtle. The finish is a bit short, but not bad.

Batch 5 small bottle. Overall, really tasty and enjoyable without being over-the-top sour. Lots of peach and pineapple notes with a hint of bitterness to keep it balanced. Very tasty and easy drinking.

Poured from a 375ml bottle into a Spiegelau tulip. Bottled on 5/30/14 printed on label. Appearance: Pours a clear medium gold with a 1 1/2 finger snow white head of fine bubbles. Small sediment particles floating around. Solid head retention with minimal lacing. Smell: Tons of barnyard funk from the Brett. Mild fruit notes in the background. Taste: Typical brett funkiness along with a bit of pear up front followed by a nice amount of tart apple cider in the middle before ending with bitter citrus and a little bit of grassy hops. Aftertaste is funky with a touch of bitterness. After pouring in the sediment (review completed before drinking sediment), this thing is off the charts funky - in a good way. Mouthfeel: Light-to-medium-bodied with a good amount of carbonation. Drinkability: Good drinkability. You could put back a couple of these without any issue. Overall: Very good beer overall. As with most Russian River offerings, this is definitely worth trying. Highly recommended.

Great Brett beer and wine like too. Barnyard and wet floor. Some light blue cheese molds as well. Flavor tart and finishes like dry white wine. Great balance of different bacterium.
