COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Named after the great Hitchcock movie filmed in Santa Rosa in 1943. This Imperial Porter packs a rich chocolate and light smoked malt character with a very soft, dry finish.

From a growler filled the day before and kept refrigerated. Poured a half finger of head on a black body. The head was quickly gone but left some nice lacing. The aroma is burnt and roasted malt, coffee and chocolate. Very nice. The taste follows the aroma: roasted malt, burnt wood, black coffee and dark chocolate. Really good. The texture is a little creamy, but too fizzy. While the fizziness pushed the rating down, it is still an enjoyable drink.

Tap at the brewpub. Dark cola pour with a spotty light beige head. Lots of chocolate in this. Earthy malts, bit of coffee, and roasty/dry late.

On tap at the brewery. Pours deep brown with a tan head. Lactose aroma and funky strong exotic coffee. Huge zesty coffee beans, cacao, burnt bread, all stuck on the palate by coarse carbonation.

On tap at the River. Very thick mouth feel, smooth and balanced. A sipping beer with strong roasted malt flavors. One of the bests stouts Iíve had. It reminds me of Goose Islandís imperial stout.

Draft at RR. Slightly hollow aroma: milk chocolate, nougat, light roast. Dark cola-brown color; creamy, light-tan head with solid retention and lacing. Medium-full body; fine-bubbled, moderate CO2; milk chocolate, light roast, and plenty of dried dark fruits; a bit of vinous warming alcohol; overall, a nice light warmth with plenty of porter-y depth; progressively more alcohol as this warms. Lengthy finish of milk and dark chocolate, dark fruits, lightly dry. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

UPDATED: OCT 25, 2014 On tap at the brewpub. Itís a dark brown one, topped by a beige head. Dried fruits, roasted malts and coffee on the nose, hints of chocolate too. Bitter flavor, both hoppy and roasted bitterness, with coffee and chocolate and some dried fruits. Full body, soft carbonation. Lasting finish. Sure not bad. Rating: 7-4-7-4-15-3.7. 130806

Bottle. Looking quite nice in the glass with itís clear, dark brown body and a dense, beige head. The aroma has roasted malts and coffee, with a chocolate touch and some dried fruits. Molasses notes and some fruity notes. A pleasant bitterness in the flavor, with roasted malts, molasses, coffee, chocolate notes and some licorice and cocoa. Itís full-bodied and smooth on the palate, although with a tad much carbonation. Lasting roasted finish. Really nice this one, wonder what I was thinking when only awarding it a 3.7. Sure deserves more. 141025
