COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Named after the great Hitchcock movie filmed in Santa Rosa in 1943. This Imperial Porter packs a rich chocolate and light smoked malt character with a very soft, dry finish.

On tap at the brewpub. It’s a dark brown one, topped by a beige head. Dried fruits, roasted malts and coffee on the nose, hints of chocolate too. Bitter flavor, both hoppy and roasted bitterness, with coffee and chocolate and some dried fruits. Full body, soft carbonation. Lasting finish. Sure not bad. 130806

On tap @ GABF. Black pour with a large tan head. Aromas of roasted malt, dark chocolate, coffee, and licorice. Some mild ash, toffee sweetness, and a hint of graham cracker. Maybe some dark fruits. Nice vanilla, toffee, and graham cracker sweetness to the flavor. Some dark fruit, bitter chocolate, ash, and roasted malt. Nice coffee, too.

@Quintessence - quite clear black beer with a little persistent foam; very roasted aroma of ashes, woody with notes of rum and mocha; full-bodied, tasty and fairly bitter, assertive, very dry finish with long roasted chocolatey and woody notes, hints of vanilla and chestnuts - huge and complex, absolutely great stuff !

GABF. Dark brown pour, brown head. Really nice beer! Roasty and some smoke. The smoke isn’t over the top at all. Molasses, raisins, dark bread. Damn fine brew.

On tap @ Boulder Strong Ale Fest 2014. Pours a deep brown / black appearance with a brown head. Roasted malty nose with some coffee, spicy / piney hops, and chocolate. Slightly burnt / roasty flavor. Alcohol is a bit strong. A touch of smoke. Pretty good but nothing crazy good.

Huge dark cream head over virtually black beer. Roasted, burnt nose, and quite a hint at (malt)sweetness. Roasted taste, with roasted nuts, liquorice, black chocolate and roasted, if slighlty sweet, meatcrumbs. Very well bodied but not heavy in any way. In the aftertaste there is a strange, rich port-like (not: porter!) flavour. Quite good porter, unusual, but none the less for that.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours with a black hued body with a lasting tan head. Aromas are roasty, toasty, nutty, walnut, macadamia, low chocolate and some raisins. Flavors are roasty, toasted, nutty, chocolate, low smoke, rounded dark fruits (dates, rich raisins), a bit burnt, bitter, well hidden alcohol, walnut with tannic skins. Full bodied yet has some higher carbonation with well hidden alcohol.
