COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Named after the great Hitchcock movie filmed in Santa Rosa in 1943. This Imperial Porter packs a rich chocolate and light smoked malt character with a very soft, dry finish.

On tap at the brewery in Santa Rosa, CA. Pours a dark brown with a good sized head. Nice creamy mouth feel with chocolate and coffee being the main flavors. I knew it was going to be good, but it exceeded expectations. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap at the brewery. Pours a dark dark brown without much head. Chocolate aroma and bold chocolate flavor without too much bitterness.

Alla spina al prewpub. Una Imperial porter veramente morbida e cioccolatosa, si lascia bere bene nonostante la gradazione + che elevata.

Bottle at home. Appearance in my HF tulip is black with a big frothy brown head and great lacing. Marshmallows, cocoa, woody, coffee, leathery, earthy, molasses, and tar in the aroma. Taste is so smooth and roasty - black licorice, leather, brown sugar, big marshmallow sweetness, dark chocolate, espresso and anise. Syrupy mouthfeel with soft carbonation. Seriously tasty beer and right up there with the best of porters. Nice!

Tap at RR. Dark brown pour with a short, stiff beige head leaving heavy lace. Nose is chocolatey. Medium-heavy, round body with moderate, fine carbonation. Lots of chocolate, but itís not the usual, this is hand crafted, high cocoa chocolate, with hints of berries and cherries. Some vanilla and dark rum, with accompanying heat. Finish brings some roastiness comes with the dry, nutty finish. While I still don"t completely understand the style (isnít this just a stout porter?), this is absolutely another hit from RR.

I just love the construction of this beer. Letís face it. 9.8 some dark pit fruit flavor, coffee, substantial bitterness, trademark anise notes... this just as well could be called an imperial stout. And itís only by looking at it as such that you can really the cleanliness of the profile, the dryness, and the lack of all too common flaws of sloppy liquor infusions or fusels. This has only a touch of apparent alcohol added as a pepper note to a bitter finish. So well done.
