Bottle, batch 3, @ Ebenezer’s. Pours a dark orange amber, very hazy, slightly off white head. Aroma is sour cherry, a bit of orange. Taste is sharp tartness up front, bit of vinegar, with a citrusy acidity on the finish - a bit earthy also, woody barnyard. Crisp and so light in body. Beautifully done beer.

UPDATED: FEB 10, 2010 Rating number 500! 375ml bottle, batch 3, at the Trappist in Oakland. Crystal clear amber-orange with a beige head. Sour lemon, white wine and subtle sour cherry aroma. The flavor is quite dry and sour, mostly citric sour, with a hint of vinegar. The cherries are quite subtle, but being sour cherries, they can be expected to blend in with the overall tartness of the beer, I guess. Light bodied and highly carbonated, with a dry, puckering finish. This is definitely my kind of sour, with emphasis on a fruity sourness. The complexities of the wine and cherry flavors are really nice. Props to the Trappist for serving this perfectly in a couple RR chalices. (8,4,9,4,18=43)

Rerate: batch 4 on tap at the brewpub. All I can say is WOW. The cherry is so much more vivid than I remember from batch 3, with more body and acidity as well. A touch acetic, but dry enough to pull it off. Great balance between the fruit, malt, and acidity. Vinnie really nailed it on this batch.

UPDATED: DEC 30, 2008 Batch 003. A very pretty beer, first pout is clear and then after is a hazy orange/rose color with a small off-white head. Aroma of cherries, sour, banana, spices, pepper and cassis. Taste is very sour at first with a really long tart cherry aftertaste. Slightly sweet in the middle, but the taste does not have nearly as much characters of the Pinot as I was expecting or wanting (compared to the Amazing Grace that I had at the Abbey). Light and a bit fizzy. Alcohol is well hidden. 9,4,7,4,15,3.9
Rerate: Batch 3. Pours pretty with a hazy orange body with great lacing and a huge white head that stays. Aroma is awesome with vinous notes, funk, cherrys, barrel, sourness and wine. Taste is sour, sour and more sour with cherries, wine and a bit of baby diaper. Fizzy, dry and mouthpuckering.

Bottle, at cgarvieuk’s, with Stella, the kids, and Traci. Big thanks to kmweaver for the bottle. Slightly hazy orange, translucent white head. Dry wine grapes, apples growing dark and wrinkled on the tree, mind rose petals, old barn boards. Lovely fruit sourness, grapeskin, pepper and wool. Well-balanced and refreshing. Kept wishing for more cherry contribution, but still really enjoyed this.

UPDATED: APR 21, 2009 On tap at RR & in bottle. Poured an amber color with a small white head, light lacing. Aroma is acetic with lots of cherries and oak. Taste is tart fruit and lots of warm oak. In addition to the cherries, there’s grapes and plenty of funk. Very enjoyable standout sour ale.

UPDATED: JUL 31, 2010 1st batch of the 375 ml. sampled with the phoenix crew... supplied by sparky27 (does it ever end?). beautiful orange pekoe iced tea color with a small white head which retains as a ring. it leaves behind light spotty lacing as it recedes. initial aroma of dill pickles (not unpleasant though), wood, earth, lots of minerals and some sweet malt hidden behind the vinegary tartness. it smells very fresh! the flavor is quite funky and dry but malty and well balanced.... wood, minerals, fruit/tart cherries and a similarity to red wine. medium body. prickly and well carbonated...8/5/9/4/18/4.4

batch 04X2. same batch. much more funky and yeasty. less fruity. tartness has faded. 8/5/8/4/18

Bottle, batch 002, thanks to TexasJeep. Pours red-orange with fizzy beige head. The aroma definitely betrays the pinot noir barrels-- plenty of berry and oak notes, as well as a rich vinous character; there are also wafts of lactic sourness and a touch of earth. Taking a sip, the sour acidity is much more apparent. It cuts through a mild cherry flavor with some oaky notes and some distant hints of fleshy fruits. The finish is very dry, with some earthy notes and a berry aftertaste. Lively, sharp carbonation goes well with it, too. Great beer.

Serious carbonation in the bottle Sounded like a bottle of Mumm’s when I popped the cork, rather than a bottle of beer. Very pretty pour. Huge head which is lasting a pretty long time. You can hear the bubbles bursting. Dark orange body, bordering on amberish tones. Light fruity aroma, like a framboise. Nice sourness to this. Very winey flavor. When I saw the not about sour cherries I immediately thought about Quelche Chose, but its not as pronounced with the Bret/Ped bugs in there. This could REALLY grow on me. Too bad its so expensive :-)
