I’m new to sours but really enjoyed this. Pours light brown, thin white head that disappeared. Smells tart with a cherry hint to it. Taste is well balanced with the sourness and perfect amount of tart cherry bite. This might be my gateway to sours.

pours a hazy golden reddish sort of brown (pretty much just brown, i guess), with a small ring of head around the glass, but with a popping effervescence. smell of peppery cherries and funky yeast and dark wood. a bit of acidic citrus (lemon, orange) in the back. sour cherry flavor, more wood, more lemon than orange, acidic, with a woody yeasty funk at the end. also a late hint or dry red wine. bubbly, sticky mouthfeel, similar to ginger ale. smooth, dryish, woody finish. peppery, again. dry, phenolic, moderately sour, lots of wood and dark cherries. quite good. sort of resembles a oude bruin, but lacto rather than aceto, and woodier and with vinous and brett (brux?) notes.

375ml bottle enjoyed @ home. Pours cloudy orange with a smal off-white head. Aroma is sour cherries, unripe apples, vanilla, wood and wet hay. Flavour is dry and tart. Medium bodied, slick texture, fizzy carbonation. Finish is dry, tart and sour cherries. Surprisingly drinkable.

3 oz chilled pour from tap into cylindrical taster as part of Russian River’s “everything on tap” sampled (16 beers this time around) at the brewery itself. I realize that drinking 16 different 3 oz pours is not ideal for proper rating, but when will I ever have an opportunity like this again?
Super sour. A different kind of beer. Tangy. Tasty malty backbone hidden behind there. A bit of a wine-like grapiness to it.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap at Russian River. The pour is a nice dark ruby color with a thin dense white head and some excellent lacing. The aroma is a bit sour with some incredibly strong winey grape notes. There is a bit of cherry on the back end, but the wine is really strong. The flavor is a little more reserved. The sour balanced out and isn't overly strong and the grapes from the Pinot barrel clash with the cherries that were added. The mouth feel is a little thin, and the carbonation makes it come off a little too velvety. The aftertaste is lingeringly grape and a hint of cherry. Not too bad,
Though I was hoping for more

Bottle share with Rahel, many thanks! Bottled 2015-01-16. Reddish orange color with small white head. Aroma is not as pungent as expected, more shy, but definitely with a nice vineous funk character. Taste is full of oak tannines, the pinot noir barrel has definitely left its traces. This leads to a present bitterness. Red apples, vinegar, cherries, dry sour finish. Body is still dry. Lively carbonation. Even for a Sour, this is very special. Awesome, not as I had expected it though.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Tap at Barcade.
Appearance: Reddish body, clear. Short lazy head.
Aroma: Sour cherry juice, hints of sour, light Brett and light perfume.
Taste: Moderately sour, sort of acetoneish. Oak tannins and sour cherry.
Palate: Light-medium bodied, moderately carbonated.
Overall: Doesn’t wow me like I was expecting. A bit one dimensional.

Rated based on notes taken 24 Apr 2012 -- ’tis ridiculous how much attention this brewery receives, or so I though. I tried this beer, the first of Russian River’s, and I loved it! Great sour.
