3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 JAXSON (485) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - SEP 15, 2008Thanks to Monk’s cafe for having a bunch of special Russian River beers on tap for the event today. Pours a clear brown with a reddish golden glow. The aroma was very reminiscent of Oerbier Reserva, though a little less complex. Flavor was initially a burst of bretty tartness, with lemons and of course sour cherries. Nice lively yeast, really satisfying. Kind of thin on the mouth. Ultimately I left myself comparing this to the Oerbier, and the Oerbier really comes out on top on all counts. This is good and very well-made, but it felt a bit too simplistic, thin, and uninteresting to warrant the hype.

You can smell the cherries, woody, almost cough syrup smell, I’ve smelled no beer like it! The color is beautiful off-orange/brownish color and that sour taste is incredible. I’m not a huge sour but this one come on! Finally a somewhat hard to find beer lives up to the hype! I apologize to Russian River for saying they were over-hyped, this one is worth it! Has to be one of the best, if not the best sour out there!
