pepsican (645), the beer wastelands of, Iowa, USA May 8, 2008 batch 003. Brown pour with a thin off white head. Aroma was mild cherry and a bit of funk. Flavor had more cherry, lemon, funk. not nearly as acidic as I thought it would be.
BMan1113VR (669), Los Angeles (and Dallas, TX), California, USA Jul 21, 2008 Batch 003. A very pretty beer, first pout is clear and then after is a hazy orange/rose color with a small off-white head. Aroma of cherries, sour, banana, spices, pepper and casis. Taste is very sour at first with a realy long tart cherry aftertaste. Slightly sweet in the middle, but the taste does not have nearly as much characters of the Pinot as I was expecting or wanting (compaired to the Amazing Grace that I had at the Abbey). Light and a bit fizzy. Alcohol is well hidden. Doppelganger (1086), Oxford, Oxfordshire, England Jul 17, 2008 Bottle, at cgarvieuk’s, with Stella, the kids, and Traci. Big thanks to kmweaver for the bottle. Slightly hazy orange, translucent white head. Dry wine grapes, apples growing dark and wrinkled on the tree, mind rose petals, old barn boards. Lovely fruit sourness, grapeskin, pepper and wool. Well-balanced and refreshing. Kept wishing for more cherry contribution, but still really enjoyed this. Hank1980 (327), Athens, Georgia, USA Jul 17, 2008 On tap at RR. Poured an amber color with a small white head, light lacing. Aroma is acetic with berries and oak. Taste is sour (duh) with plenty of vinegar acid, fruit - more grape than cherry, yeast, and some oak. Mouth is very light, finish is very tart. hellbilly (793), scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA Jul 16, 2008 sampled with the phoenix crew... supplied by sparky27 (does it ever end?). beautiful orange pekoe iced tea color with a small white head which retains as a ring. it leaves behind light spotty lacing as it recedes. initial aroma of dill pickles (not unpleasant though), wood, earth, lots of minerals and some sweet malt hidden behind the vinegary tartness. it smells very fresh! the flavor is quite funky and dry but malty and well balanced.... wood, minerals, fruit/tart cherries and a similarity to red wine. medium body. prickly and well carbonated... tronraner (1372), (Louis-, Sevier-, Knox-)ville, Tennessee, USA Jul 12, 2008 Bottle, batch 002, thanks to TexasJeep. Pours red-orange with fizzy beige head. The aroma definitely betrays the pinot noir barrels-- plenty of berry and oak notes, as well as a rich vinous character; there are also wafts of lactic sourness and a touch of earth. Taking a sip, the sour acidity is much more apparent. It cuts through a mild cherry flavor with some oaky notes and some distant hints of fleshy fruits. The finish is very dry, with some earthy notes and a berry aftertaste. Lively, sharp carbonation goes well with it, too. Great beer.
