Bottle. The pour was a medium murky chestnut brown with an average sized (1-2 finger) creamy light beige head, that reduced slowly to a thin layer of foam with a collar producing some mighty fine sheeting of sticky lacing. The aroma was bold and fruity with a dark bread malt and some Brett yeast along with some notes of cherry, oak and a bit of red wine. The taste was incredibly sweetly tart and very malty with a slight hint of wine in the beginning, then becoming boldly sour with a nice strong malty cherry presence and a hint of oak at the end. The flavor lasted a very long time allowing for the sour cherry wine flavor to be fully enjoyed as it relaxed on the taste buds. Mouthfeel was a solid medium in body with a creamy dry texture and a carbonation reminiscent of champagne. Overall, all that has to be said is WOW what an incredible brew. This brew was most likely one of the best things I have ever put to my lips. Just sayin’...

Bottle share with Rahel, many thanks! Bottled 2015-01-16. Reddish orange color with small white head. Aroma is not as pungent as expected, more shy, but definitely with a nice vineous funk character. Taste is full of oak tannines, the pinot noir barrel has definitely left its traces. This leads to a present bitterness. Red apples, vinegar, cherries, dry sour finish. Body is still dry. Lively carbonation. Even for a Sour, this is very special. Awesome, not as I had expected it though.

Tap at Barcade.
Appearance: Reddish body, clear. Short lazy head.
Aroma: Sour cherry juice, hints of sour, light Brett and light perfume.
Taste: Moderately sour, sort of acetoneish. Oak tannins and sour cherry.
Palate: Light-medium bodied, moderately carbonated.
Overall: Doesn’t wow me like I was expecting. A bit one dimensional.

Rated based on notes taken 24 Apr 2012 -- ’tis ridiculous how much attention this brewery receives, or so I though. I tried this beer, the first of Russian River’s, and I loved it! Great sour.

Bottle: Mildly translucent copper color with a slight red hue. Deep orange, too. Off-white head on top that’s gone in a few moments. Aroma is very sour up front, gets the saliva glands pumping. Sour black cherries, red grapes, heavily vinous oak, moderate vinegar, & oak. A little vanilla. Flavor is built off of grapey vinousness & soft acetic acid. Vinegar, grape, oak, vanillin, cherry, red apple, a touch of corky cellar funk near the finish. Dry cherry skin finish, lingers with notes of oak, vinegar, & red wine grapes. Though not my favorite Russian River sour, it’s still very delicious.

Draught at the Russian River Brewing Co, Santa Rosa, CA.
Slightly cloudy amber colour with a tiny to small white head. Sourness, brett, tartness, yeast and some vinous notes in the aroma. Wow! Sourness, tartness, brett and wine in the flavour. Excellent beer!

Wood cherries wild yeast spicy phenolics and wine like in aroma and flavors. The Pinot character is especially evident. Fantastic beer.

Ah supplication.... I love this beer. Beautiful color, great smell of the delicious things to come: The sour cherries is strong on this one, woody, wine and the tartness packs a punch. Carbonation is just perfect, nucleation makes it spicy to the tongue. A well balanced sour. A+ ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Clear, deep orange with some red colors. Smooth redcurrant and cherry with hints of sweetness. In the mouth it is again fruity with a hint of sweetness but a rich, boozy, tart flavor also comes through. It is very obviously a strong beer, maybe even punches above its weight with the winey character.

Btl pours a clear light brown color with some ruby highlights. Big thick soft head lingers leaving no lace. Smells of berrys, wood,my wet dog, and hint of wine. Tastes of sour patch kids, wet hay, wine, and cherries. Medium body, perfect carbination, tart mouthfeel, and a dry finish. I really can’t desribe this adaquately. This is beer is fantastic! It has so many different flavors and aromas we could be here all day. I love it! Mouth puckering, barnyardy, wine barrel wood, dark sweet fruits, everything you could want in a sour and more. It is worth every penny!

Batch 092414. So good! The wine shines though in an amazing way! The sourness is slightly more pronounced than consecration in my opinion. Still subtle though. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
