Commercial Description:
Is it beer, or is it wine? "Aged in French oak wine barrels for twelve months with distinct characteristics of fruit and subtle oak" sounds more like a description of wine than beer. But, of course, Temptation is indeed beer. Actually, Temptation is a Blonde Ale Fermented with a special strain of yeast, then aged in French oak chardonnay barrels. Flavors of wine and oak absorb into the brew throughout twelve months of aging. During this aging process, a secondary fermentation occurs using a yeast strain disliked by most brewers and winemakers called Brettanomyces. The "Bret" gives Temptation intriguing characteristics and a pleasant sourness. Temptation is re-fermented in the bottle to create its carbonation--a process commonly used to make fine champagne and sparkling wine. Spent yeast forms a thin layer of sediment to remain in the bottle.

Holiday wine, Escondido 8/06. Batch 001 375 ml. Hazy copper colored with massive white head. Pleasant sour aroma. with balanced sour musty taste. Body a little thin. Alcohol well hidden. Better balanced than Le Woody.

sample at pub. The brett was a bit much for me on this one, but another solid beer. Nice complexity.

Bottle (batch 001) from Vinnie. Strong aroma with hints of vanilla and apricots soon overtaken by earthy brett-aromas. Murky dark yellow with small white head. Flavor is complex, slightly sour with a dry, bitter finish. Aftertaste is tart and fruity with marzipan kicking in. Smooth mouth feel and mellow carbonation. Tart, but balanced without the vinegar notes as many Belgian sour ales and with so many layers of complexity revealing itself up as at warms. *Very* nice! Enjoyed with aged Pie D’anglois and my homemade rye bread, which it complemented beautifully :-)

Pours with a slightly cloudy, light orange body topped by a medium thick, white head wtih a good amount of lacing. It’s sour and vinious wtih notes of sour apple and grapefruit with a slight oaky note. Light bodied, crisp and dry.

Cloudy golden color with a small white head. Aroma of white grapes, oak, hay and hints of vinegar. Tart, not sour, with notes of green apples. Well balanced, light acidity and a moderate dry finish. Great mouth feel, almost creamy. Excellent beer thanks to rudy for sharing

Batch 002. Slightly hazy, pale body with medium sized off-white head. The aroma is heavy brett, pineapple, cobwebs, light horseblanket, some peach and honey. The flavor is slightly sweet, mildly tart, pineapple, peach, pear, green apple and slightly herbal. Medium body with soft carbonation and a soft and smooth texture, just a touch tannic on the finish. Lovely.

Pours a hazy rich golden color with a very light bubbly white head. Very effervescent and inviting looking. A very thick, rich, acidic orange smell is present. Get other semblances of different citrus fruits as well. Taste is pretty sour but blended well with the orange peel, and slight bitterness. I could drink this all the time, it is so refreshing. The spices mixed with the acidity are really very enjoyable with this beer. They did an awesome job here!

Bottle via Vinnie from RR comping me due to my mistake (yep Vinnie frakkin’ rules!). Batch 001.Been saving this for 6 months. Pours a crystal clear gold with a large white head that leaves more than enough lace on my Pilsner glass. Nose is unique-sort of a cross between a champaigne and a fine red wine. Taste is quite unique. Like most RR beers, it starts with an explosion of fruit. THis one starts with my favorite apples;pink ladies, then some peach & strawberries, and then the pink lady finishes again. Dry clean finish. Medium body. I do not care for this style, but honestly this is great stuff. I liken it to a punk rocker that recognizes the best C & W band he has ever heard.....and knows it is good..and that all is well! I hate the style but love this beer, what more can u seay?! Get it & try it if u know whats good 4 u?!
