Is it beer, or is it wine? "Aged in French oak wine barrels for twelve months with distinct characteristics of fruit and subtle oak" sounds more like a description of wine than beer. But, of course, Temptation is indeed beer. Actually, Temptation is a Blonde Ale Fermented with a special strain of yeast, then aged in French oak chardonnay barrels. Flavors of wine and oak absorb into the brew throughout twelve months of aging. During this aging process, a secondary fermentation occurs using a yeast strain disliked by most brewers and winemakers called Brettanomyces. The "Bret" gives Temptation intriguing characteristics and a pleasant sourness. Temptation is re-fermented in the bottle to create its carbonation--a process commonly used to make fine champagne and sparkling wine. Spent yeast forms a thin layer of sediment to remain in the bottle.

375ml bottle, Batch 001, courtesy of boboski (THANKS Jason)! Pours a perfectly clear and beautiful golden with a slight fizzy white head, slight lacing. Aroma is sour grapes, sour apple, oak, and musty funk; very pleasant, and opens up in the glass nicely! Flavor is more sour apple with some light citrus and oakiness. Palate is light, and medium-thin, good carbonation, and a brief, but satisfying finish. Good stuff!

Bottle into a wineglass showing moderately filtered neon yellow with quickly dissipating foam lacing. The nose shows clean chardonnay - lemon meringue, light citrus. The palate is well carbonated and light bodied. Lightly tart with light citric zest around the edges. Light white wine bitterness on the finish.

This is one off the bucket list. Thanks Rob. By far the driest beer I've ever had. Some unique flavours, including pickle juice. Medicine. Herbs. Herbal medicine. Excellent. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle, about a year old, from Michael (misterburd) -- many, many thanks! Fruity, funky, and bitter, this is a great funky Belgian that’s being made the old-fashioned way in California.

Tasted from draft. Pours a very pale light yellow. Clear with some lacing. Aroma is Brett, lemon, citrus, funk. Taste is pretty bitter with flavors of citrus, sour funk, grass and herbal notes. I'll admit I'm not a sour fan but this is well done. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Batch 2 bottle shared by Karl Meyer thanks. No head. Clear golden color. Big brett aroma and nice complementing acidity. Fresh even though 10 years old.

Bottle from NickD717 simply because he’s a good dude and he noticed I’d never had it before. Thanks bud! Beautiful aroma of white wine grapes, yeast, funk, and a little citrus fruit. Pours a clear yellowish-orange with just a hint of a green tint. Fairly bubbly in the glass with a thick white head and some rather heavy, sticky lacing on the glass. The flavor is funky and a little tart. Strong wine component melds beautifully with the funk. Feels fairly soft and yet somehow tingly at the same time, with a dry, funky close. Really excellent stuff. Just another way that our 20+ years of friendship has paid off for my beer drinking pleasure. Thanks again Nick!

Bottle to a snifter. Pours clear pale yellow with ample foamy white head... A ton of carbonation... Effervescent ... Tart apple and white grape notes, pleasantly sour Granny Smith and buttery Chardonnay flavors kissed by the oak... Truly outstanding ale!!!
