COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Is it beer, or is it wine? "Aged in French oak wine barrels for twelve months with distinct characteristics of fruit and subtle oak" sounds more like a description of wine than beer. But, of course, Temptation is indeed beer. Actually, Temptation is a Blonde Ale Fermented with a special strain of yeast, then aged in French oak chardonnay barrels. Flavors of wine and oak absorb into the brew throughout twelve months of aging. During this aging process, a secondary fermentation occurs using a yeast strain disliked by most brewers and winemakers called Brettanomyces. The "Bret" gives Temptation intriguing characteristics and a pleasant sourness. Temptation is re-fermented in the bottle to create its carbonation--a process commonly used to make fine champagne and sparkling wine. Spent yeast forms a thin layer of sediment to remain in the bottle.

[bottle] Vinous white grape and sour aroma with some oak butterscotch. Almost clear light orange under a patchy white cover. Winey sour flavour with a pleasant malt backbone to balance the sour. Complex fruitiness: raspberry, cherry, white grape. Dry and sour but not over the top. Light body, high carbonation, very clean finish.

P: A golden biright color, almost pale straw, translucent with lots of light shining through the edges, Has a one finger head that settles. A: Oak, pear skin and apple skin, chardonnay, wet hay, and brett. T: Oak, sour lemons, wine, hay, mangos, and sour green apples. M: light, medium to high carbonation and the perfect amount of sourness and just super easy to drink. O: I first had this like 3 or 4 yrs ago (one of my first sours) and it was amazing. I had this again, finally and is freakin mind blowing.

Sampled at DLD 2013. It poured a golden color with a white head and tons of carbonation. The aroma was very yeasty and bready. The taste was very dry and tart, with sour apples. Nothing but awesome.

Bottle from a trade, I wish we could get this "locally"! Pours really pale blonde with a nice fluffy blanket of foam that leaves some pretty intense lacing. Really nice stuff we have here! Aroma is like a damp basement with wet grains and mustiness. Taste is sour of course with only the slightest acetic character, like any good gueuze really. It feels really good and is mighty quenching. Awesome stuff! Doesn’t pale in comparison to the top tier gueuzes!

750ml bottle, shared by Nate. Hazy yellow - orange color. Little off-white head. Some decent lace. Really oaky, tart, lightly citrusy nose. Big tart taste. Medium to bigger body. Light orange-like citrus, but that’s hard to notice under all the tart oak. Bright, lighter carbonation. Light viscosity in the finish, bit more dry overall. Great stuff

750 ml bottle to snifter (Batch 4; thanks Nate). Looks good; a hazy orange with off-white head that dissipates into lacing fairly quickly. Smells good too; semi-sweet, tart, and funky. Tastes like it smells with a nice, lively mouthfeel. Good stuff!

This beer uses "Brett", a yeast strain that I HATE! But, when I opened the bottle I kept an open mind. Glad I did, because this beer is amazing!!! The beer is sour. I mean lip sucking sour, and I love that. As it heats up, the sourness subsides, and the true flavor in this beer comes out. The next time I am in San Diego, I will grab a few of these to cellar. I bet this just gets better with age. Well done, Russian River!

Mild sour. Nice underlying fruit flavors. Sourness quickly decays, making for a very drinkable beer.

Pours a cloudy golden with a large white head. The aroma is mild with bready yeasty notes but the barrel and the Chardonnay bugs come through very clearly. Great transition from sweetness to immediate tartness on the palate with a vinous finish. Killer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
