NosirIwont (874), Aalborg Vestby, Denmark Aug 29, 2008 Bottle. So, finally got around to rerate this beer, which I’ve postponed for 3 years. I actually only got around to doing it because it’s being discontinued and I found it on sale, nearing the ‘best before’ date (never bothered to pay full price for it again). Pours almost pitch black with a nice brown head. Sweet, roasted aroma with slight metallic notes in the background at first. Notes of vinegar which increases in strength as it warms. Faint notes of apple. Flavour is sourish with roasted notes in the background. Metallic. Finish is lingering roasted notes, vinegar and apple. Slight bitterness. Very thin palate. Guess it wasn’t faulty when I tried it the first time – it’s just that bad. 30-08-08.
Old rating, July 2005: 4-4-3-2-8.
Draft @ the brewpub. Well, this beer got my hopes up when it was served pitch black with a nice brown head. But woe - both aroma and flavour had a massive apple character. I actually like that apple aroma/flavour in some beers, but it does not work in a stout. But when all is said and done it probably shouldn’t have been there in the first place - the beer was just still green. It’s a shame when brewers hurry the brews to meet demands in the busy summer months (which is what I expect happened), and people (read: me) end up with such crap. There was some coffee in the finish, though (it was nice). Guess I’ll have to try it again some time when it (hopefully) has matured long enough.
Jukkabro (2394), Tampere, Finland May 28, 2008 Near black colored with little dark brown head. Sweet smoked aroma with slight caramel and berries, too sweet aroma for my taste, is it this added licorice here. Thin to medium bodied. Flavor is more roasted and burned with some smoke still, sweetness still here dominating. Aftertaste is sweet still with some smoke, some hops also come up. Well, easily too sweet for me. EHSRanders (709), Randers C, Denmark May 3, 2008 Bottle. Black colour with medium creamy light brown mostly lasting head. Aroma is roasted malt, chocolate and coffee. Sweet smoked flavor. Bitter finish. Bragesnak (1330), Aarhus, Denmark May 2, 2008 From Superbrugsen, Aarhus, DK.
Bottled.
Unbalanced and thin. Though some nice liqourice flavors Miksu (1286), Jyväskylä, Finland Apr 24, 2008 0.5 l bottle. Black color with creamy head. Sweetish aroma with coffee and licorice. Coffee, lots of licorice, charcoal and barnyard in the flavor. Unpleasant barnyard flavor.
