3.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 MiP (12483) - Sønderborg, DENMARK - JUL 14, 2007
Bottle, 6.5%. Semi-sweet, fresh metal aroma, better than it sounds. Clear coper colour, slightly frothy head. The flavour starts off a little sweet, turning peppery. Quite malty also. Hint of rough hops, but well hidden by malt and in good balance with the alcohol. Sweet in the way I like it.

500 ml swing top bottle poured a clear gold with a small lingering white head. Aromas of straw, citrus and light earthiness. Palate was light bodied and crisp with a dry finish. Flavors of straw, earthiuness and light citrus with a crisp dry moderatly bitter finish.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Allen (2689) - SWITZERLAND - FEB 10, 2010
Bottled 50cl. A very nice Heller Bock. Nice hop profile, biscuity, sweet, toasty, crisp and rather delicious. Underrated in my opinion.

Bottled. A golden beer with a thin beige head. The aroma is sweet malty with strong notes of caramel and lesser notes of alcohol. The flavor is sweet malty with primary notes of caramel, but also lighter notes of alcohol and metal, leading to a dry finish.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 EithCubes (4233) - New Jersey, USA - FEB 24, 2012
Swing-top by 23.03.12. Sweet grassy and lightly muscat-tinged dusty nose, mildest touch of citrus. Clear, properly golden body with a creamy eggshell head. Taste lightly sweet but really starts off with a nice jolt of bitterness before losing it completely. Quenching, juicy malt profile, lightly warms the chest, and there’s nothing airy or muddled about this one, straight to the heart of the matter. Lively medium body, never thin, never fizzy, finds a good a balance. Won’t have it again, but enjoyed the time together.

Bottle looks very simple. Beer in the glass not too zippy, nice head. Starts strong, fine spicy, dry, some alcoholic hints. A bit metallically. Finish dry, spicy, but well balanced. Okay!

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 sound67 (223) - Offenbach, GERMANY - NOV 19, 2009
50cl dark brown bottle, with golden-brown label "Saalfelder Bock".
Pours a clean yellow golden with a medium off-white head of limited retention. Almost no lacing.
Aroma of apples, some citric notes, and malt.
Medium-bodied heller bock with very moderate carbonation. Heavier-than-lager mouth feel, somewhat oily in texture.
Taste resembles the aroma. Fruit (again, apples), pronounced malt, with the alcohol weighing in rather heavily for just 6.5 % abv. Middle is balanced between alcoholic sweetness and very moderate bitter notes, finish is dry and bitter. Appealingly hoppy, medium bitter after taste.
This is not a bad, rather sessionable bock beer from the former East Germany. The wee-oily mouth feel considerably adds to the appeal of this brew. While I’ve never been a great admirer of bocks, or, for that matter, doppelbocks, I’ve got to say that the Saarfelder is kind of nice.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Miksu (4570) - Jyväskylä, FINLAND - SEP 29, 2010
0.5 l bottle, thanks Timo A! Golden to copper color. Sweet malty aroma with honey, bread. Sweet, malty, honeyish and slightly caramelly flavor with hint of herbal hops. Higher alcohols in finish. Full bodied. Firm tasty maltiness, but too sweet.

Swing top bottle from MoritzF. Golden color. Malty sweet, buttery flavor. Touch of alcohol. Indifferent aroma. Friendly bock, sweet, but otherwise not abundant with aromas and flavors.
