Ruby Color with no head. Aroma is very malt with caramel, and butterscotch along with a light grassy hop background. Taste has a heavy dose of caramel along with the hop background that still present and also the grassiness, has a bit of smoke to it also.

12 oz. bottle from Trader Joe’s. Pours a clear reddish mahogany color, with a moderate beige head. Fruity, grassy and mildly roasty aroma, fresh flowers and notes of pvc. Flavor of unsweetened prune and cherry juice, grass, herbs and ash. Medium body and gentle carbonation.

This had a nice head.Aroma was a tantilizing sweet caramel hoppy fragrance. The color was brown.Flavor was a good amount of hops with a bit of caramel and a slight sour finish.Pretty darn good beer, but I still like Widemer’s 06 Red ale better. Thanks Trader Joe’s.

12oz bottle poured a clear reddish brown color with almost no head. Aromas of mostly caramel with some floral hops. Taste has a small bitterness with a good malt profile and some fruity notes towards the finish. Overall a nice red ale with some character.

4 ounce sample on tap at the Sacrmento brewpub. I also had several pints of this at the airport as well. Hoppy, piney aroma with some floral notes and a bit of licorice. Light sweet malts present as well. Pleasant aroma. Transparent amber body with a small, off-white head. Spicy, piney hoppiness to start. Light caramel maltiness is also present in the middle as well. Finishes very spicy and quite hopped. Nice body. Good beer.

Rich malty aroma. Reddish amber with a respectable white-tan head. Rather thin, starts with a vegetable malt, there’s a zing of something like ginger - there, then gone. It seems a hop finish, but not all that much. The former version was probably unpasteurized, foamed all over, and, as I recall, was almost as hoppy as SN Celebration. This version is smoothed out. It’s drinkable, and it’s growing on me. However, it probably no longer belongs in the American Strong Ale category. It’s more like a brown.

12 oz bottle. Brownish amber color. Decent head that didn’t stick around forever. Thought it was going to be classified as an amber. Aromas were malty with similar flavors with a bit of a hoppy finish. Could probally use a bit more of each. Drinkable, but not great.

UPDATED: SEP 26, 2005 Reddish-orange overflitered appearance - acceptable none-too-lavish pillowy head. Quite delightful nutty/roasty aroma accented by round, citrusy hop notes. The flavor is considerably less concentrated than the aroma. Pleasant crysal malt and toastiness. Could use a little more bittering hop presence. Smooth, creamy finish. Overall a pleasant quaff that I’ll be buying again.

Pretty disappointing. Pretty malty with a sort of dirty, gritty off taste that just lingers in your mouth. Would not want to try this one again.
