Rich, dark malt is what gives Saddlebock Dunkelweiz is rich, dark color and robust, caramel flavor. This is a complex and satisfying beer, brewed with the real beer lover in mind. From its dark chestnut color to the complex flavor with hints of caramel and cloves, this is a wonderfully complex and satisfying brew. Steve won a gold medal for his Dunkelweiz in his final home brew competition.

Ar: A weak caramel. Ap: Light copper. Lighter than expected. T: A very weak, water clove flavour. P: Light and flat. O: Obtained a growler. First glass tasted like dirty water. Second glass was a tad better. Color was weak, head was weak, flavor was clearly watered down. Tasted like a low-point beer hardly in the neighborhood of what was advertised. Here is hoping their draft is better because their store bought product is very poor.

On tap at Brewski’s in Fayetteville, AR. Pours a cloudy amber-orange colored body with a finger-width, dense and creamy, beige head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma is cherry wheats with a toasty breadiness, a light caramel, somewhat watery and papery grains, and a touch of herbal hops. Flavor is similar. Thinner, lightly sweetened caramel with a bready toast and cherry wheat essence. A bit grainy with some grass and a light herbal hopping towards the end as this finishes clean, mostly dry, and lightly bitter with a light fruit and malt sweetness. Fairly lengthy aftertaste following a medium-thin body and a softer, moderate carbonation. Overall, a thinner feeling Dunkel with a decent enough flavor to keep this somewhat enjoyable. Nothing special, but not terrible.
