A Mes rate. Cask at the Anchor.
Rich dark mahogany with a reasonable beige head. Very fruity aroma with a hint of wheat. Big rich malt flavour with plenty of liquorice and bread. Something doesnít quite sit right. Maybe some raw sugary notes. Sort of treacly and vaguely reminiscent of something from Het Anker. Lots of character and very interesting enough, there is just something about it that doesnít sit right.

Cask conditioned handpump Criterion Leicester 30/05/12. A dark ruby coloured beer with a whitish head and good lacing. A very fruity beer with lots of orangey notes. Chocolate, licorice and booze in the nose. Nice bitterness in the mouth. A good length of flavour. Tasty if just a little heavy.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Cask handpull, The Crown, Nuneaton. As good as pitch with orange-red glints and white frills. Burnt wood and alcohol aroma. Sweet with dried fruits drenched in booze, background roast, vinegar creeping in. A bit flimsy at the strength, but very drinkable. Spiritous herbal tonic notes bobbing with spiced apple. Balzams? Christ.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Hand pulled at the Prince of Wales, Moseley, Birmingham. Smooth, thick mouthfeel: enveloping. Packed with flavour: berries, rum, spice. Warmth from the alc clings to the back of the throat. But balanced. Very nice.

Cask-conditioned at the Seven Stars, Bristol 3/06/10. Dark brown with reddish undertones and a slight, off-white head. Fruity malt aroma with some chocolate. Flavour was sweet, with milk chocolate, berry fruit and a touch of citrus in the finish. Enjoyable.

Cask, gravity at The White Horse, Hedgerley, 18th íComing of Ageí Beer Festival 29-05-10 Took this one away in a carryout back to the camper. Pours very dark brown peeling away to a lighter brown colour at the edges. This is full of chocolate in the mouth, tangy with a little fruitiness, good beer but its all about the chocolate.
