stravale (2234) - Near Carrick-on-Shannon, IRELAND - NOV 18, 2014
Bottle from B & M Bargains, Stretford Mall, Manchester [181114]
Dark caramel brown, clear, big fizzy head that dissipates to nothing, then flat as a pancake
Aroma of mellow roast, dark malts, some dark cocoa, vanilla, dab of sweet dark chocolate, hint of brown bread
Taste of mellow roast, some dark malts, dab of brown bread, alcohol well hidden, soft coffee, dark chocolate, but the flavour is quite weak for a 6.6% beer
Palate - Almost no carb, quite thin, fairly sweet palate. Finish as main flavour, soft sweet dark malts
Overall - Doesnít taste 6.6%, but expected something richer flavoured and more full bodied for that strength. Iím sure this would be better on cask.

Sample at SBWF 2014. Malty smell with chocolate, caramel and bready malts. Similar taste, sweet and with a nutty flavour.

I like vanilla flavours in a stout, but there is too much of it here for me. Some cereal and coffee as well, but too little roasted malt and bitterness. Doesnít quite work.

Cask at Merchants, Rugby. Aroma of chocolate, coffee and vanilla. Taste is smooth, pretty alcoholic with a chocolate vanilla taste throughout. Pretty sweet finish. Nice stuff.

Not really to my taste. Overly strong flavoured, like Guinness original x100. Very alcoholic. Very thick and cloying couldn't drink more than one in an evening ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Near-black red beer with a thin beige head. Chocolate, fruit and malt in the scent. Flavour is tangy berries, light chocolate and a toasted malt flavour which comes through stronger in the finish. Rather nice.

cereal, dough, black, cloudy, minimal head, heavy cloying sweetness, medium body, average carbonation, just tastes like youre drinking some kind of brown sugar fluid. its really not good. but was 80p from B&M.

500ml bottle from Home Bargains (uh?) at just over a quid - Dark Brown with slight tan head. Heavy nose with deep rich malty notes whilst being reasonably fruity, molasses and treacle, sticky sweet palate with chocolate and vanilla. Quite impressed with this for its price.

Pours dark red with a big reddish brown head which gradually fades to a ring. Fairly good lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate and oats. Taste of roasted malt, bitter cocoa, some sweetness and a hint of vanilla. A bit grainy and a dry finish.
