The vanilla comes through strongly on the nose with some toasty notes. Pours black as yer ’at with a thin head. The flavour is very nice - balanced dark notes of cocoa and hickory threaded with sweet vanilla and buttery cereals. Finish is warming and sweet with just a little earthy bitterness comes through.

Are the words ’Mud City’ a tromp l’oeil? I hope they are when Dom is discussing his beery member. Some choc, and a little dark fruit, nice, a classic I know. Yes. Pixies.

Stout with a noticeable strength and feels heavy in the palate, but its mild roasted aroma and mild chocolatey flavour are not compromised.

Better than I thought, but not as good as I wanted. How often is that the case? Wife says lacks depth but not sure if that was me or the beer. I was in the mood for something localish, been listening to a bit of Sabbath tonight and it seemed suitable. Not that Aston is Stourbridge but hey, I’m boring myself now so I’m off to do something else.
