Brewed with raw cocoa, vanilla pods, flaked oats, wheat and a complex blend of beautifully dark malts.

Bottle from home bargains. Nose is not great initially but improved, metallic notes abound, which faded as it breather leading to sweet malts, slight licorice and soft coco and vanilla. The taste is sweet, sweet malts with emerging vanilla milkshake, subtle wheat, slight licorice, gentle smoke. Mouthfeel is very thick and rich. I found this a strange beer, much much better than I was anticipating and many of the reviews suggested. It suffers ultimately from a lack of depth for the strength, but as a supermarket beer it’s much better than one normally finds.

500ml bottle pours black with a fast disappearing tan head. Nose is milk chocolate and toasted grains, bit of nut and chocolate milkshake. Taste is mellow roasted grain, chocolate bars and some nuttiness. Thick, rich mouth feel and low/very low carbonation. Good stout.

Mild sweet aroma - liquorice, coffee. Thin dark with small brownish head which quickly disappears. Seems flat but slight ting on tongue throughout. Taste as aroma - nothing very exciting - disappointed.

Bottle from B&M. Deep dark brown with a lacing head. Cocoa, vanilla and a touch of old wine on the nose. Rich and chocolatey, slightly sweet and plummy, and with a burnt-bitter edge. An excellent modern twist on a classic 19th century English Stout

500ml bottle, BB Mar 2016, 6.6%. Black, big dense foamy tan head, light lacing. Aroma is yeasty, coffee, cocoa powder, earth, burnt spices. Body is medium, pretty smooth, low carbonation. Taste is creamy and custardy with some burnt notes, roasted malts, yeast and some metallics. Some nice aspects to this, but has a bit of a harsh metallic finish. Decent stout.

Sweet burnt butterscotch with a lingering smokiness and hint of liquorice at the finish and sweetness on the lips. Malts are held off with a light hoppiness and nice dry quality. For the style and strength it goes down real easy. Cocoa is in there but can’t taste the vanilla. Solid stout.

Vighals (2716) - Sørumsand, NORWAY - APR 4, 2015
Svart med lavt lys brunt skum. Toffee, skogsbær, kakaobønner og kaffelukt. Smaker salt lakris, bitter kaffe og lett søtlig brunt sukker. Medium fyller. Kort salt avslutning, medium kullsyre.

W aromacie czekolada i orzechy, nieco przyciężki, ale ujdzie. W smaku za to o tyle ciekawe, że orzechy wyraźnie dominują nad czekoladą, do tego niskie nasycenie i raczej wytrawne. Dodatek kakao i wanilii niewyczuwalny. Poprawne.

Cask at The Reginald Mitchell, Hanley (JDW) A black colour with a foamy off white head. Aroma of roasted malt, toast, burnt caramel, vanilla, oats and chocolate. Taste of roasted malt, caramel, oats, chocolate, vanilla and some berry. Full bodied and a smooth texture. A roasted oat finish. A full flavoured, smooth stout, more oaty and sweeter than I expected but nice.
