Bottle, nice black colour, small head. Malty, very sweet, with faint notes of dark chocolate. Quite watery finish. Might be Ok on a hot day on the beach, but not more.

330 ml bottle. A dark brown beer with a small, short lived, light brown head. Sweet aroma of caramel, roasted malt, dark chocolate and brown sugar. Sweet flavour of roasted malt, dark chocolate, caramel and a bitter finish with a hint of smoke. Medium body with a watery texture and flat carbonation.

This is a surpringly refreshing beer for the summer heat of Portugal. Goes well on its own or with food.

33cl Bottle purchased in the Azores and opened at home on 25th June 2014 with 6 days before itís BBD remaining. Poured robustly into a Gordons Thistle shaped glass. It looked lovely: deep ruby red with a full, deep tanned foaming head, sadly the head fell away a bit too quickly for my liking. Sweet malty molasses in the nose with not much else. The taste was also malty but with a seawater, almost salty feel, weak and thin, I had trouble finishing the glass. Luckily I had some Brie and Pretzels close by to help me. The worst Portuguese beer Iíve had so far, and that is saying something, because Iíve not had a really good one yet!

przyjemny, dość intensywny zapach palonych słodůw, kawy zbożowej i lekkiej śmietanki. kolor ciemnobrązowy, pod światło rubinowy. piana przyzwoita, beżowa. w smaku dość puste, czuć głůwnie kawę zbożową, lekki popiůł i nuty śmietanki. goryczka niska, prawie niewyczuwalna, za to jest bardzo lekki metaliczny posmak. całkiem fajne sesyjne piwo.

12 oz bottle. Pours a very deep brown, not quite black. Medium off white to tan head, thick, leaves some lacing on the glass. Aroma of toffee, toast, caramel, dark fruit. Taste is the same, thinner mouthfeel than expected, no finish, bland and muted flavors.

33cL bottle. Itís Portuguese! Pours a moderate off-white head that burns off to a thin collar. Black color, translucent, not much lacing. Smells just fine, good actually. I donít have the highest expectations for the style, but it actually tastes pretty good. The palate is thinner than some other schwarz-es Iíve had, but it doesnít detract too noticeably...itís only 4.3% after all. Overall, a fine beer, especially for the style, Iíll look for it next time Iím in the Azores!

Bottle from local Yamaya store. Decent roast malt nose with some chocolate. Thick brown with translucent edges, thick rocky head (which diminishes almost immediately), good lace. Thin roasty initial flavors, goes a bit harsh in mid palate, light chocolate. Thin-medium body. Not bad. Kinda mid-range dunkel character. Maybe the roast malt masks the junk?
