(Translation from Portuguese): A beer that’s 100% natural, with proper brightness, medium body, dry character and a pleasant bitter taste. It’s light and golden colour. A distinct taste, recognized and appreciated since 1940.

Pint at pub i Cascais. Pale golden colour, no head (but was tapped that way). Slight grassy aroma. Light taste with vague blend of bitterness and caramel malt.

A yellow beer with a fine but collapsing head. The aroma is sour - from the non-malted cereal? The flavor is slightly of malt with a sour note, ending on a slight bitterness. The mouthfeel is thin and watery. A boring example of an international lager.

UPDATED: JUN 23, 2005 (Bottle 33 cl) Golden lager, slightly creamy head. Very fresh smell, oddly it reminds me of a German "Hefe-Weizen", has the same fruity-/citric notes although I belive there’s no wheat in this. Quite some hop-bite in the palate. Portugal’s best known brand? 240603

Canned. Pale golden, airy head. Vague grassy nose. Dryish, clean and light bodied. Short, somewhat metallic bitterness. Pilsnerish and rather refreshing.

I got the bottle from a good Portuguese guy, Pedro.
It comes as Sagres Min, probably just because the bottle is 25cl (Pedro told me that the small bottle is a trick for always having a cold beer, compared to bigger bottles that last more time in your hands).
And luckily I have these stories to tell, because there is not much interesting about the beer itself. It’s the usual blond, corny Lager; and it seems that the trend in Portugal is for low bitterness (same as in their ex-colony, Brazil, but differently than other warm European countries like Italy). I recommend drinking it at icing temperature, if you really have to drink it.
